Newbie-ish question, but one that might save me few dollars if the purchase is unnecessary. When the rear window is popped opened, should the struts fully extend the glass? My glass pops opens about 2-3 inches, and then I pull it open to the fully extended position. My guess is that the rear struts might be worn, but they do hold the glass at it's full 90 degree position after I pull it up and they have good resistance when I close the hatch.

Take some silicone lube and spray it on the struts .. work them in and out a few times... works like a charm.

Be careful though the glass will fly up compared to what you have been used to ;)

Thanks! I will give that a try. Just so happens I have a small tube of silicone lubricant I bought for a catch can install on my other car. I'll give it a try later today.

It should open all the way...you need new struts. Get a pair for $40ish at your local auto part store, takes less than 5 mins to install both! :D

Ha!

When I first changed mine the bloody glass nearly hit me on the bottom of the chin when I pulled the gate handle. Reminded me of a Three Stooges routine :idiot:

When I changed my hood struts I thought my hood was going to fly off it opened so fast,I need to use my whole body weight to pull my hood down to close it.Thankfully not a violent opening when I put new rear glass struts.

It's been a year since I replaced my glass struts and I STILL have a hard time pushing it closed. They definitely open it up all the way and keep it up.

Thanks for all of the advice. After deciding to replace the struts (the old ones were shot. After I raised the hatch all of the way up, it would still drop about 3-4 inches) I bought a pair from Wisconsin Auto Supply on eBay for $22 shipped. The struts arrived this week and I installed them last night. Now my hatch flies open - which made more of a difference to me that I would have imagined!

Got my set from Orielys life time warranty. Like they said watch the chin I push the button as I walk up to it. Makes the wife mad because her Blazer won't do it.

I just used some white lithium on all four. They are quicker now. Probably should replace the rear ones though since they are rusting.

I am debating on going with 31x10.50-15s on Cragar Soft 8 15x7 wheels and at some point will buy one more wheel and out my spare on the factory tire carrier. Will the back glass clear the new spare tire? Looks like it might have JUST the right amount of space but still curious if anyone has done this. Reason I am asking here is because I just, 5 minutes ago, went to RockAuto and ordered new struts for the hood and rear glass and don't want the rear glass to fly up so hard it breaks something... like the glass.

The glass should clear the spare - but barely.
