Hi guys,

so i finlly have my new motor in and running well, question is can i reset the speedo, as it is a new motor, want to be able to track it correctly for servicing!
after all it is a new motor, so down the line if i want to sell the jeep better to show the true milage of the engine than the old donk!

Do you mean you want to set the odometer to 0? That's illegal here...

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Not going to happen, pretty much illegal in modern countries. What your looking to do is take mileage off your vehicle, ask your local law inforcement about that. You'd be commiting fruad trying to sell your vehicle at a lower then actual mileage.Just document at what mileage you replaced the engine and keep that paperwork handy(write mileage on reciept for engine). You still have what is displayed on your IC on the body,trans,t-case,and the rest of the drivetrain and suspension.

The only way to have the mileage changed on a IC these days is when a new IC(not used) has to be installed and takes alot of paperwork and the mileage is set to the current mileage displayed on the bad IC.Can not be set to zero.

Things may be different Down Under but here in North America it's illegal to reset the odometer. I even wonder what our rules are for complete restorations - in other words, does a completely restored '57 Chevy - newly replenished from the ground up - still have to have the original miles on the odometer?

Don't know the answer but it seems our "rules" often conflict with common sense...

P.S. Glad to hear you finally got the new motor in. What did the manufacturer end up doing to compensate you for your troubles?

HI BOB, yup shes all good and purring now! they were real good, paid labour and all sundries costs for me!
i found out during the whole process what caused the original motor to let go, in the timing cover there is an allen bolt, (exactly the same as the coolant bleed bolt) sits directly behind the water pump shaft on teh timing cover, there was a tiny pin hole where it had corroded, thus allowing water to enter oil, a $8.99 part that ended up costing me over 5k!! but all is well now:)

Hi,

Illegal in Oz just as it is in NZ.

It;'s not just the old engine, it the trans, the diffs and the body.

Nope. Won't happen.

This is why people mention *** miles on odometer, *** on engine, *** on tires, transmission etc.. Most of the time, it really doesn't matter, but I wonder what made you get a new engine, and if new transmission is next !?
