My dealer is such a rip off!! I'm going back to complain tomorrow. Here's the story. Last week I installed my trac-lok lsd. I forgot to order the rear axle seals online, since i had the axles out. I got them at pepboys because the dealer was closed and of course a week later they are leaking. I go to the dealer today and they tell me $35.99 each!!!!! I paid $10 each at pepboys but those are leaking. I said give me a better price. Whop de dew they knocked $5 off, either way i needed them. With tax it cost me about $74 and change. I put them in and no more leaks i'm happy.

Now i'm not happy anymore. I just checked with directmoparparts.com and they are $8.57 each for a chrysler rear axle. WTF!!! Is this legal to charge that amount?? On top of that i bought the damn jeep there and i used to work there in high school detailing cars. And they wonder why i never bring my car in for service.

One last thing was a dana rear axle available in 02'? What did it come in?

Well, you might have been ripped off by the dealer (sounds like it) but, I think you may have learned something VERY useful, in the process! ;)

I love dealers. I just got done buying a new Liberty.
We were doing the deal, and I said give me $500 additional off the price and I'll sign the paperwork. Sure enough the salesman comes back and shows me the sheet with $500 additional off. So I get ready to go to the finance room and mention I want to use my $500 security deposit as a down payment. The salesman says "oh, that was used already as part of the deal". Turns out they used my own $500 as my additional discount.

I was only able to get $300 additional off after I just about walked out. Then the salesman kept schooling me on how he really needed me to give him a great evaluation when I get the survey in the mail. He thought giving me a tire cover would make everything better. You have to watch them like a hawk !

I walked out of a deal when the a-hole gave me a price and said that would be the final price, after we negotiated off the window sticker. When I sat down, he started adding sh*t on the paper, prep, delivery, destination, gas, all that crap. I felt like that Seinfeld episode.. charging him for the keys? Even the things that was already on the window sticker... jacking the price back up. I said, "you drunk, go back there and continue drinking" and walked out. They think they can do everything, there are other dealers. There are OTHER CARS!

Anyway.... I am getting all worked up with these topics.

That's why when I buy a vehicle, we agree on the total price first. I tell them what I am willing to pay total. Then they can go back and figure out what the vehicle price is and how to work the tax and fees in. They take the total amount of money and work backwards from there. About drove the last sales guy crazy when I bought the KJ. He was having a hard time working backwards to figure out what the price of the vehicle would be. It may be annoying to the sales guys, but I pay what I want to pay for a vehicle or I walk out.

I still don't think I have heard one as good as when the Manager called me an ******* and told me to get out of his office. All after he told me I was taking food out of his childrens' mouths because I told him I would only buy the service contract through him if he could make a challenge to the price I was quoted by another Dodge dealer in the area, which was like $1200 over cost. God help me if I had told him what Helfman Dodge was asking ($100 over cost). Ended up getting it below dealer cost in the long run by buying it through my best friend's dealership. Well, his family owns like 8 dealerships, but one is a Chrysler.

If only the story ended there, though. After many other things went wrong when I refused to play their game, they registered my car with Chrysler with a bogus address so I would not get the survey card. Found out when I went to buy the service contract and it had something totally BS in there for me. I staked out the address (stalker) and sure as hell, one of their salesmen lives there, but not the one that I bought from.

Now when I bought the Jeep, that was a piece of cake. I knew where the car I wanted was, and just called every dealer around getting what price they would go get it and sell it to me for. Got it for over well over 10k off.

I guess the memsah'b and I must be leading charmed lives. We've purchased 3 Jeeps, so far, from the same Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep dealership and have been very happy with the deals we received and their service department is excellent. Our previous experience with the local FORD dealership, on the other hand, made me want to give someone a one-way ticket to Falujah!

You guys are doing business with the wrong dealers. You gotta search out one of those 5 star dealers. That way when you leave you're still seeing stars........

5 stars means "we got these stars ripping off more people than those other non-5-star-dealers"

LOL, that's exactly what that means!!! I HATE the dealer i only go there to get parts in an emercency situation. I try to order all the parts i need online, sometimes i'll forget something and have no other choice. My liberty is my only vehicle so i can't be without it. I was pissed last night when i found out how bad they ripped me off. But i did pick up some nice mt/r's yesterday that i won off ebay.

Wish I could've shared that experience. My ex 5-star dealer left me seeing stars because they knocked me the $#@$@ out!! Screwing up my Jeep and such. However, I no longer see that they have the 5-star logo and advertisement! LOL.

I've shared many stories mentioned here :(

After my year of free oil changes and my 3 warranty are up I'm going to go to my regular garage mechanic for any maintenance.

Hahaha! The sales guy we got my Jeep from said he had to support his family!

The first dealer we went to, my dad and I sat down and dad said he would give them 17k for a 28k Jeep! The expression on the sales guys face was great. I was alittle embarrassed but it was great.

I love messing with sales people. They tell you so much BS to try and sale a Jeep its not funny.

Ohh, and myjeepwalks, youve learned a very good lesson here. The dealer WILL **** you, and you must know the part number on what you are getting before you go to the dealer.

I called a dealership the other day and was transfered to a woman in the parts dept. I was needing some spark plug wires and a coil wire for a Jeep Cherokee. She said it was $34 for the spark plug wires and $34 for the coil wire.

I went down to the dealer and got all that plus a cap and button for $47. idea.gif

my favorite is how all these dealerships that have web presences sell for 25%+ OFF of MSRP...yet when I call around looking for a part quote to the local dealers they come back charger around 10-25% OVER MSRP. I go, "MSRP on that is only $27" and they act like I am lying. The worst part is they stutter sometimes giving me the quote and let the MSRP slip, then I hear them ticking away on the calculator marking it up, then they come back with a new price. Buttholes.

Lesson learned, it is never, never necessary to buy bearings, seals, etc. from the dealer. All this stuff is available from bearing, industrial supply companies from the part numbers right on the parts. 3 or 4 companies probably make comparable parts with very similar part numbers for what you needed.

I've gotten kinda used to the way I buy any vehicle now.
We've been close friends with the GM here for over 20 years.

I check what's available on their lot...pick what I want ahead of time....work out everything (mostly) myself before I go in and then just walk in and ask if the GM is in (I already know he is). Tell him what I have to trade/down pymt, tell him what I can afford monthly and within two minutes he walks out and says "Go pick you one out".

I have walked in and driven off the lot with a brand new Jeep in about 30 minutes before. My wife's new Compass was the 12th vehicle we've purchased/leased from him. They always throw in a couple of freebies like tire covers, upgraded floor mats (should be included with the LTD anyway ;) ), free oil change/tire rotation for period of loan...etc.

Then we will go out to dinner with him and he treats :D .
This is usually how it will happen when doing business with him.

I wouldn't do it any other way.

My Grandmother used to run a employment business aka headhunting. She found people for companies looking to fill positions and jobs for people looking.

Anyway, She had a car salesmen from down on the Kent auto mile walk in one day and told her he needed a different job or he was going to kill himself.

He said he had been ripping people off for years and he had trouble sleeping from the guilt. He said this was of course promoted and expected by the GM.
No choice. Do it or find another job.

The final straw was an old man that came in to buy a new car. Probably the last he would own as to his age. He wanted all the bells and whistles. Perfect for getting ripped off. They basically robbed this old man blind.

That was fine except two weeks later he came in with the missus to thank them on treating him so well and getting him such a nice car.

Sales dude couldn't take it and had a break down. Finally found out he had a consience.

These people are unbelievable. Every time I walk in there to start the process of buying a vehicle I feel dirty just talking to the slimy bastards.

I wish we could buy direct from the manufacturer. Just pick out what you want no BS.
