Thinking of going to the Silverstars seeing that a few on this site are using them and the stock bulbs aren't great.

Any special wattage? Are these real hot? A buddy of mine put halogens in his Cherokee and they melted the plastic casing in the housing.

nope just plug and play, it burns hotter, hence the whiter/brighter look, unsure of the heat it emits, or wattage but i have not read or seen any instances with it melting plastic or what not.
just a word of caution tho, these do burn out faster than OEM bulbs, so be prepared for about a year's worth out of them. some have gone over a year.
I burned out my first set in about a year, but i had used them excessivly.

and to me they are worth it. When i had my stock bulbs after the SS's burned out, it looked really dull...

Isnt' there a trick to the ones for the fogs?

Yea, buy 9005 bulbs then cut one of the tabs off if I remember correctly. I did it a while back then took them out because I didn't want to over load the stock wiring. I had a friend that had a VW jetta and they put bulbs in with higher wattage, that actually melted their wires. Which kinda scared me so I took mine out. Plus I really don't need more powerful fog lights. Since, I have other lights (whistle)

Thats what I thought!!! Apparently, VW puts fuses in that are rated too large for the wiring.

Stock wattage is 55 watts. As for overloading a stock wiring system, I once put in 85 watt 9006 bulbs in a older car. Never got a ticket...

Does anyone know the stock wattage for the head light bulbs? (Aeh)

The '05KJ specs list 9007QL bulbs (55/65). Here is the spec sheet from Sylvania.

Bought the SilverStars yesterday. Put one in, and compared against the stock 9007QL. BIG difference! Then burned my finger getting the other stock bulb out. D**N. Getting a hand in between the fuse box and the headlamp on the driver's side was a challenge.

I had Silverstars in my truck that I just sold and I loved them. Don't ever touch the bulbs with your skin though as the oil from your skin can cause the bulb to prematurly burn out.

You already bought them and put them but to me they aren't worth it. Granted they're only $35 or whatever but I didn't excessively use my lights and got about 1.5 years out of one. I then put a stock bulb back in and didn't really notice the difference. Sure the SS is whiter but didn't really illuminate that side of the road better etc. I suppose our photoreptors perceive light a little differently. Then the second one burnt out and now I'm burning the original stock bulbs. And I didn't get finger oil on the SS bulbs. They suck. I've read on several forums of people experiencing a short life span with these. To get 1.5 years out of them is b.s.
