Ooh good point. Add riding brakes while steep downhill, your suggestion probably makes more sense, perhaps glazed rotors too.- Zjjustin

Brakes issue
I'm not an expert on the subject. But, assuming good pads and rotors, and no mechanical problems, brake fluid might be a guess. Very very slowly, brake fluid can absorb moisture, which, via some physics stuff, degrades brake performance. Or rather, the transfer of hydraulic force is degraded...- Zjjustin
