    Ooh good point. Add riding brakes while steep downhill, your suggestion probably makes more sense, perhaps glazed rotors too.

    I'm not an expert on the subject. But, assuming good pads and rotors, and no mechanical problems, brake fluid might be a guess. Very very slowly, brake fluid can absorb moisture, which, via some physics stuff, degrades brake performance. Or rather, the transfer of hydraulic force is degraded...
