Well I replaced the pan and the transmission is working like it used to, so that seems to have been the problem. Thank you everybody.
What sort of damage was I likely to do to the transmission by running it on low fluid like that for 30-60 minutes?
Perhaps the pan damage was severe enough to interfere with fluid flow?
I think my plan is to replace the pan and hope for the best. I really don't want to go looking for a new transmission again.
I took my stock '03 Liberty off-roading more than I anticipated the other day. After breaking off the exhaust going down the hill I was concerned it wasn't going to make it up the hill.
This has the SelecTrac "full time/ part time" NP242 transfer case and 45rfe transmission.
Coming up the hill...

They're actually calling it a "mechanic's special" because the rear axle or brakes "are making lots of noise, we don't know what it is". But it's got the drums and mine has the discs, so that's the one part that I know isn't common between the two anyways.
The whole...
I have a 2003 Liberty (early '03, so actually manufactured in late '02 and with the 45RFE transmission) in good shape with 250,000 miles and a transmission that's going out.
I can buy an okay-shape 2002 Liberty for sale for $1000, with a "newly rebuilt transmission" and 125,000 miles...
The front passenger window on my new-to-me 2003 Liberty ("Limited", power windows) doesn't roll all the way down, it stops about 1/4" above the the door metal.
But I took off the door panel and looked in there, farted around with it for a while, and the glass looks like its sitting on the rest...
Does anybody know where I can find gaskets for between the sheet-metal and the door latches/ handles?
It seems like the type of thing that should exist but I can't find any. They came from the factory with gaskets there, right?
Maholo.
Good catch, I didn't realize how nobody ever puts aftermarket lights on their vehicles due to liability concerns.
The stock headlights look to be around 8" diameters and at least mostly circular. I'll probably play around with putting 7" round sealed beams (or a real glass conversion kit for...
I couldn't find a torsion spring that looked close so I made due with a Home Depot-special linear spring. About 7/16" diameter and 2" long. Tie-wrapped to the plastic handle on one side and the sheetmetal of the door on the other. Seems to be working so far.
Yellow and hazing about covers it.
I'm not expecting a drop-in solution, but since the KJ headlights are rather flat and circular, my initial plan is to remove the plastic lenses and press a 7" round sealed beam up against or through the sheet metal.
A company made glass conversions for my...
Anybody ever replace the plastic lenses with real glass lenses on their KJ, or have insight on how it could be done?
To me the headlights look so flat and round that it seems like it'd be easily doable somehow.
I hate plastic lenses.
I have an '03 Liberty and the rear latch doesn't close itself all the way; still seems to work but is floppy and feels broken. I disassembled it to where I can see half a rusty torsion spring that should be closing the handle but is broken.
Does anybody know where I can get a new spring that'd...
