Good day all, I have a 2012 KK and believe it is time to replace the worn out suspension. The bump stops on the front are almost non existent at this point. Dont need a lift but how much money am I going to save by just replacing the the springs/struts with OEM rather than going with a lift kit?
I know that replacing your suspension system is expensive as I had to do that to a previous 2009 Liberty.
As a professional engineer I always advise people to go with the original components of any car's parts as these are the correctly designed and engineered items based on extensive testing at the factory when the vehicle's systems were designed.
Going to lift kits, spacers and other similar parts available on the web throws a well designed suspension system off design parameters. This can result in creating an unsafe condition especially as the Jeep goes into sharp curves or a very bumpy dirt road.
You don't need to go strictly O.E.M. as there are many reputable suppliers of suspension parts for the Jeep Liberty that will satisfy the geometry designed into the vehicle's suspension. If you go slowly, such as the front suspension first and the rear thereafter; you won't save money but you will spread the cost out over time.
I always follow the dictum that keeping a family vehicle repaired to factory specs (or as close to it) is the best and safest practice.
