So I'm not really a jeep guy in actually a ranger bronco 2 expo dude. But recently just something bout these little kjs man got me eyein em.

Kinda want one for a daily ya know they are kinda ringin the bell for me ya know.

Remind me of the wj I had when I was 16 just a wee be smaller. Parts seem cheap enough. And not quite bastard to work on seems like.
My mom has one in her yard that was my grandfather's but it's been there for months better part of a year. Dash is a Christmas tree of lights its got every recall known to man ya know like that, smells bad inside too.

So I'm like idk bout bringing that one back to life but what do you guys think.

I made a post in the crd thread I found some decent looking ones around me too

For one unless you know how to work on diesels yourself , stay away from CRDs
They take time and patience and know how to own one
Plus more costly
Now what do you really want to know ?
A lot of us on here have owned and built KJs for 10-12-15 years
If body is good, and you can figure out what all codes there are go for it , maybe easy fixes

I have a tdi vw jetta that seems close to what you guys deal with that own crd liberty's. I'm not sure that I'm willing to go through all that again with the special tools and what not constant reading and learning how this works and boost leaks and on and on.

But I'm just here to say hi and ask wether or not you'd try to revive a liberty to that's been in the weeds for a long time or just buy another one that's good.

Oh lemme think iirc it was an 03 manual shift tc I wanna say 150+ on it. Body isn't quite fred flintstone level. But could use rockers. Was parked due to bad wheel bearing I think. Leather Interior too I think ooo now that I'm really thinking the rear door was left open for awhile in the summer. It was a 3.7 and auto trans

So leather interior it is a Limited Edition , are flares same color as body ?
they made Sports, Renegades, Limiteds etc
So you mention both manual and automatic trans ??

Yes flare same color as body and it's that navy blue color. I ment manual shift t-case sorry. Has the alloy rims too

I have an 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport manual V6 3.7L just a little over 111K. This is a great jeep and I love it. Anyhow, my lights are giving me an issue. I drove the car last week and everything was fine. Then the next day the low beam light stop working, the high beams worked. A friend of my put in the white led in the car which worked fine. I checked the fuses and they were all good. I decided to troubleshoot with the OEM lights, no change. I replaced the fuses to see if that would fix the issue. No go. So, I have changed the bulbs and the fuses. Next, I pulled the relay out for the low beams and swapped it with the high beam relay to see if that would fix it. I tested the low beam relay when it was not installed and it was clicking. The high beams worked fine after the swap, and still no low beam lights. So, I changed the bulbs, fuses, and relay, still no low beams. The switch is behind the steering wheel which i replaced once before for another issue and that was not the cause. I will bet my switch behind the steering wheel is not the issue also. I'm not electrically inclined to find a shot in the head lights. But, I know that I have to check the wires for the lights. Does anyone know what I should do next??? Thanks.

You can download the 2003 Jeep KJ Service Manuals here...section 8W has the Wiring diagrams. You will need a cheap Digital Multimeter to check the voltages.
What you refer to as the "switch behind the steering wheel" is the Multifunction Switch that has all the controls for the lights, wipers etc.
This switch does give a lot of problems even if you have replaced it before! ;)

Have you checked fuses #4 and #5 on the Internal Fuse panel. The Low Beam Relay is on the reverse side of this Internal Fuse Panel (Junction Block)...you need the Wiring Diagrams to identify which relay is which on the reverse side of this interior fuse panel....it is actually the small Relay standing by itself in the corner!....the only Relay on the front of this panel is the High Beam Relay....Canadian KJs have an extra Large relay on the front side! :rolleyes:

You can try re-plug all the connectors on this Junction Block!

I will have a look at the 2003 manual to see if there is anything that could cause the problem.

I have replaced the fuses, bulbs, and swapped out the relay from high been to low beam. I would like to take the pins out from the head light connection and clean them out. But, I don't know how to get the pins out from the wires of the head light plug.

I wasn't listening for the relay to click because I swapped it from High to Low. The original rely for high beam is in the low beam. I know for a fact the high been relay works because the highs are working. And they still work with swapped relay. Wouldn't that rule out the relay. Oh, the relay for the low beams does click. But no low beam lights.

I haven't checked because the relays were swapped high to low, low to high. Lets say it doesn't click? Then what? Lets say it clicks? Then what?

Disregard this if you know how to test the circuits!
Probably the easiest way to test the circuits is with a simple 12V test light .
In this case you're testing for 12 volts, so hook the clip to a good negative/ground.
Turn the low beams on
Check both sides of the #4 and #5 fuses for power.
If they have power, then check the headlights , violet and violet /red are the low beam wires.

just checked if the fuses were getting power, and fuse four and five are not getting power. I used the same probe as yours in the picture.

Did you check the 50Amp fuse , #15 under the hood. To see if this has power on both sides?
If this has power , then you have to go back to the low beam relay and check power and grounds.
With ignition on and lowbeams on or off, pin 30 should have 12+ coming from the 50 amp fuse .
When the lowbeams should be on, pin 87 should have 12+.
The relay is energized when the stalk switch sends a ground. Ground is brought to the relay from the stalk switch to pin 85, so this should be negative when the stalk switch is calling for low beams.

I just did what you mention above. All troubleshooting was done with the key turned to the on position. The engine was not running. So, I pulled the #15 fuse and checked the two pins. With the voltmeter set to 200V or 20V I checked the two pins where the fuse sits. I got a reading of 11.9. I reinstalled the fuse. Then I pulled out the low beam relay and I put the red probe to pin 30, the black probe to 85 "is coil ground" in the photo and I got no readings. I swapped out the relays. It's in the earlier post. I also checked the pins of the driver side light. I have three wires violet, black, and green. So I put the positive probe to violet wire low beam, and black probe to the black wire ground, no reading. Then I tested the green wire and it showed a reading which is high beam. No readings on the black pin wire. I haven't been driving my jeep since this thread started. The relay readings were suppose to be taken when the relay was out, I don't know any other way to check the relay.

I read your note, but I've been out all day.
I've never actually messed with the light relays...
Tomorrow I'm going to try and do a video of testing the relay socket for the correct voltages.
Hopefully there will be enough room to get the camera back there.
ON my car , the power door locks , are locking but not unlocking , so I've got to do the same testing on the unlock relay (passenger doors).
