The stock thermostat is lame and expensive. Don't throw your old thermostats away because there's a modification that can be made so the innards can be changed out. The modification requires some lathework and welding. Check out my Feb 8 2020 post on Corky Kj's thread "Exasperated KJ Owner! Requires brain transplant or sledge hammer!" for drawings.

Best known solution is TURBO-DIESEL-FREAK's replacement thermostat housing. Expensive until you buy several worthless original thermostats. He's usually on the LOSTJEEPS forum. Lots of good 2.8 CRD info over there.

I have a brand new in the box Mopar thermostat with new factory gasket available if anyone needs one.
Message me if interested.
I recently installed an HDS unit on my Jeep and now no longer need the Mopar unit I had in stock for backup.
Whatever you do, do not install the in hose hack or believe the hype concerning it.

The thermostat has a valve in it that opens up at only 176 degrees Fahrenheit, (80 degrees Celsius). This is to help this engine comply with the Environmental Protection Agency's NOx emission standards rather than running the engine at a proper operating temperature. Even new O.E. thermostats for the North American market are not very good.

The Hot Diesel Solutions Model 001 engine thermostat I manufacture is an extreme quality assembly that uses CNC machined housings. It is totally serviceable and uses easily available HEMI engine thermostat valves that have opening temperatures of up to 203 degrees Fahrenheit.

I have customers in Alaska - a place not known for balmy temperatures - that think the HDS Model 001 is the best CRD engine upgrade available.
