Have just bought 03 KJ limited, have just received my 2 inch lift with the wrong struts I'll be fitting 265/70/16 Toyo open country's. Been wondering about rubbing etc, I'm planning on going a bit nuts with the flares,if it runs then cut it out basically. I like my 4x4 to look like they don't just see black top. I'm interested to hear and see some ideas around this subject.

If you actually have a 2 inch spring lift, right backspaced/width wheels why the heck are you thinking of hacking away at the flares ??????????????????
This is not Ted Mack's Amateur Hour

Shocks, NOT struts and there is no wrong shocks that will fit on front except for the ones for a KJ WTH ??

Please do not hack away at the flares , looks terrible

No amatuer here bud, just thinking I may have to do some cutting. Whent bush on totally stock setup and had rubbing issues. I don't believe in hacking things up but if I do cut I have the skills to make it right. I've been reading heaps on this forum about lifts and tyre sizes and don't seem to find a definer on anything. I have installed 1.5 inch spacers behind stock alloys looks good but I suspect that there will be issued with the 32's.

Oh yeah if we put a spring over a shock it's more likely a coil over shock

32s require 3.5-4 inches of lift and no amount of cutting is going to make them fit without a full spring lift
plus 4.10 gearing of course

and you can not find your answers on here ??? LOL funny

We've done over 60 KJ lifts here of various heights, brands, and tire sizes
Tell me what you have and I'll tell ya up front if it will work or not
Wheelwells are small in the front, and you can not go cutting into the body, pinch welds etc without loosing frame strength

No I haven't heard of ted mack neither has anyone else in Australia. I'm not a young pup I'm a 47 year-old welder/fabricator. I've built race cars and restored numerous vehicles. As for the wheel wells every thing can be cut out and modified as strong if not stronger. I ask that you drop your attitude and polite insults and have a discussion.

NO NO NO wheelwells can not be cut out due to the way KJs , well even KKs are put together
You start cutting in that area and you affect not only the strength but also crumple zones etc for a street driven vehicle.
Now if building a full tube frame with roll bars etc tied in then yes you can get away with it then
You seem not to have fully looked over the body/frame especially in the wheel areas
There is no attitude here simply trying to get you to understand how the KJs are built and what you can do to them
Been building 4x4s, custom cars for the last 48 years, ( I am 66 ) so I too know a little bit as well
I've seen many KJs cut apart, was in the BDS shop helping when they were building their KJ etc
But hey it is yours cut it up see how it turns out a year later
OH and Ted Mack was a TV show years ago, think it was even a Canadian show seen the world over
I'm done

FWIW, I have 265/70/16’s in stock wheels. I also have a spring lift (2-2.5 inches). Many said it would not work. All I had to do (for mine) is cut the skirt at the pinch, pound the pinch over, and add some weld to the steering stops. The only reason I added the weld was because the tires were hitting the sway bar and the frame rail at full lock. I don’t do any “real” off roading, so I don’t know how it would work there.

Now, with all this said, it does NOT mean it will work for you. Also, I can say with the wheel spacers, there would be some serious fabrication needed because I only cleared the pinch area by a few mm.

Calling a Moderator an ******* ?
apologies will be accepted
Yeah ok sorry, you come across as a bit of a party pooper, I have to find a way around scraping with what I've got. Standard 16 in alloys with 265/70 aggressive all terrains. 2 inch spring lift using King springs as my prefered brand, Dobinson were not available for KJ. I've put 1.5 wheel spacers on just for the hell of it. Lift is not installed yet neither are the tyres. I'll delete the spacers when lift is fitted and see what happens. Bigger lift would no don't require other mods which I'm not willing to do. I may have to drop an inch off the tyre size. If I need to trim flares then I will but I know about the small wheel arch. I'll tidy the flares with rubber flares if needed and take out inner plastics.

On one of mine ( the 03 ) I run 2.5 inches of JeepinByAl lift , pinch weld pounded over, 265-70-16s on Moabs ( 16X8 with 5 inches of backspacing ) 4.10 gearing , Nothing cut, just pinch weld pounced over and inner fenderwells formed back down over the flattened pinch weld , perfect DD
The 04 with 4.5 inches of lift, 32s same wheels and 4.10s just doesn't have enough low end grunt for my liking on the highway wish we could go to 4.56s easily ;(

I do not play with doll babies, or beat around the bush, you ask a question I answer, time is money in my world
" I was raised that way, no BS just the facts, if you don't like them go back to playing in your doll house "

One of the old guys ( well same age as me now ) that I hung with when I was early 20s always said that last line and it fits

I'm running 255/75/17 had to hammer down the pinch weld in the front and trimmed a bit off the lower part of the front bumper ,upgrading the ucas also helps never had rubbing issues when I had the front flares on currently dont have them on..back flares dont rub either when flexing if you have bumpstops, the hockey puck methods helps
