Just coming in to look for info. I own a 98 Buick Regal GS modded with Headers, 180 T-Stat, 1 Step Colder Plugs, K&N CAI and a custom tune. But my mother owns a 06 Jeep Liberty 65th Anniversary Edition, with the 3.7 V6. Its completely bone stock and only ever had routine maintenance done to it.

It seems shes leaking oil out of her crankshaft seal or timing cover gasket. Cant see specifically cause its splattered everywhere. Now I'm no certified mechanic but I know how to work on cars and have done any work aside from ****** and engine rebuilding to my cars myself. It seems simple enough to replace both or either, but my step-dad is a moron and says the engine needs to be pulled to do it. So now my mom doesn't want the headache and from what i can see, planning on trading it in for a new vehicle. So how hard is it to replace them? And its only got 70K on the motor.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
The crank seal is easy to replace,a $10 part from the dealership. There is plenty of room to replace it without pulling the engine. The bad part is a special puller is needed to remove the crank pulley though.I did mine a few weeks ago, took me about 30mins to do in a driveway.

The same tool is needed to do the front cover seals also since the crank pulley has to be removed and might as well replace the crank seal then as well. The front cover is also not bad to replace, looks like a big job but is pretty easy, just alot of items that need to be removed.

Ok you replaced the crank seal, did you have to pull the fan/radiator to do it?

If the KJ has HD cooling(AKA a mechanical fan+ electric fan) yes the mechanical fan, shroud, and electrical fan will have to be removed. With the puller I posted the radiator can stay in place. No HD cooling and nothing but the serp belt needs to be removed(besides crank pulley) to change that seal.
