Jen and I are thinking of doing the exact same thing as what you would like!

The main problem I foresee is the actual part that inserts into the receiver itself.
The last off road excursion Jen and I did the receiver portion of the hitch made contact with the terra firma several times!
Had the receiver been any longer it would of dug in and we would of gotten stuck several times!
Still trying to work out how to get the cargo carrier up high without causing the grounding out!

I'm thinking a steel arm welded to each side of the hitch frame under the Jeep and coming through the bumper facia. Crossbar over the top of the hitch with a spindle mounted on it for a removeable frame that the the rack/platform would mount to, about a third to halfway up the spare tire. A second rack/platform over the spare. I'm thinking of ditching the tube that goes into the hitch. I might even ditch the whole rack and build a lighter platform with no rail or an abbreviated rail.
All this because I think it's a pain in the butt not to be able to open the tailgate with stuff in the rack. :disgust:

Just cut the bottom of the bumper off, get a KK hitch which sits 4 inches at least higher and go from there everything is tucked up higher and won't drag

I'm getting there. The swing and the tailgate don't quite work as well as I would like but it's acceptable. The tire runs into the driver's side upright. Doh!

hey do you think you could try and put something together for a steel rear bumpet for the kj?

im working on designing an aluminum one, im designing it so that it can be built by anyone who has basic tools, welder, grinder, chop saw etc... the one i am disigning as of right now will not have an integrated hitch but if i end up being able to round up the money before i build it i will get a kk hitch and fit the bumper around it for better clearance, rock lizard fabrications offers a couple different steel bumpers, the light duty komodo is definitely a nice one just doesnt hav swing away carriers or an integrated hitch like the hd model does but is a lot less money, would you be looking for a plate bumper or a tube pre runner style bumper?
