having just recently read that libs are notorious for getting dirty throttle bodies, my question is what causes it?

i bought mine from a used car lot about 5 years ago and they didnt service it at all before i bought it. a week later i was in limp mode trying to get out of traffic. giving it the once over i checked the air filter and it was BLACK through and through. what is it about the liberty that produces so much dirt. i may doing the throttle body cleaning this weekend.

Nothing about the KJ that produces it, just dirt in the air/roads/ fields etc plus mix in dirty gas and you have to clean them
Good Amsoil filter and clean it every few months good to go

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
The KJ,like all other multi port FI engines, has a dry intake which means only air passes through the intake. This type of intake system is prone to carbon build up over time due to the exhaust gases that get blown back into the intake when you shut the engine off.

It's not like the old days of carbed engines and TBI in which gas still flowed through the intake keeping the crabon from sticking, but prone to varnish.
