Has anyone found a set of windsheild wipers that work really well and last? I have been struggling to find any that I like. I've tried Bosch and cheap brands, but nothing seems to last more than 5 months or so. We've had more rain than usuall this year but come on... I got a set of Anco Contours last night, I think they were like $18 so we'll see what they do. Any thoughts?

Michelins are very good but expensive. Don't sweat, just buy $10 rain-x and replace it every 6 months, do you get that much rain up in IL? We get hell of a rain here, and I only replace it about every 8-10 months.

Rain-X work "ok" for the summer months, but they suck in the winter. Last time i had them on i didn't change them before winter, they seem to freeze to the windshield if you look at them the wrong way. The ridges in the blade fill with snow and ice and they don't wipe for crap unless you get out and knock them off now and then.

I run plain old $6 house brand cheapos from the auto parts store most of the time. They usually last me 3-4 months and then i toss on a new set when they start to squeak a bit. For the winter time i run the Anco Premium's which are a silicone rubber blade that doesn't get hard in the cold.

Piaa Silicone is the only wipers I use. Quiet, moves the water and they last.

Tried nearly all of the brands available ... 6 months seems to be the limit of there useful life.

I had the OEM ones last a couple of years. About a year or so ago I replaced them with "Bosch Micro Edge" and they went through the winter and seem ok still.

But mine stays garaged whenever there's a storm coming cause it's a pia to get all the snow/ice off so that probably makes a difference. I am sure usage and climate makes a difference.

Super-secret tip: When your old wipers are getting ineffective and dried out, take a little sandpaper with a grit that's not too coarse, and run it up and down the blade of the wiper. This will take of the hardened oxidized coating and extend the life of the blade. I started using this trick and I've greatly extended the life of my wipers.

Neat trick jnaut. I will have to remember that. I will usually just replace mine at the first sign of a squeek (can't stand that) or uneven wiping. That will buy me some time to get a chance to replace them when they start acting up.

I buy Trico wiper blades for $5.00 each and they have been wiping away the Pacific North West Liquid Sunshine for the last 14 months and are still going strong.
I haven't even needed to clean them yet.
BTW, When I do go to clean them,I use an Alcohol pad to clean off the rubber blades oxidation. Then I flood the windshield with washer fluid and let them wipe. I find that doing this keeps them from squeaking and chattering against the glass.

Back in 2008 when we got a real snowy winter, I switched into a Trico winter blade. They have a full rubber protection wrap around the frame, making them heavier and snow does not stick to them easily. They work great! As of today in July 2010 the outside rubber wrap has disintegrated but the blade itself remains strong. I cut away the outside rubber wrap and have painted the now exposed aluminum frame black today. Come winter I will buy another set of Trico winter's, inexpensive, and also have a steel insert where you clip in, making them stronger than plastic for winter.
For cleaning the blade which I do every 2 weeks, I use a light mixture of fantastic, vinegar, and Alcohol to keep the blades clean. This mixture also works great to clean the windshield and helps to repel water.
After washing your windshield with warm water, run your hand on the glass. If you feel any small bumps or dirt particles in the glass, it is time for some jeweler's rouge or
Cerium Oxide, available at your local auto glass shop. It removes small scratches in the glass, removes wax, and restores the windshield to perfectly clean.
These trapped dirt particles wear your wiper blades prematurely.

I made the switch to Rain-X last spring and have liked them very much. I have not had a chance to see them in action against snow yet though.

Rain-X Latitudes.....

OEM's lasted for years, went to the cheap Trico's and they sucked right out of the package, put on the Rain-X Latitudes, so far clean even wipes, no squeaks, but haven't seen them work in the winter yet, so the jury is still out on them....

We bought Goodyear Assurance wiper blades at Costco for $8.00. So far have been working great and standing up to the 110+ degree heat here....
