So i know a good deal of you guys are ******** into 4x4 and flexing to the max and driving your Jeeps over 13 foot boulders at a 45 degree angle and all...

But my intentions are much simpler.... Currently I've got some craptastic near treadless 215/70/16 tires on my stock KJ steelies. I've been reading endless posts about wheel/tire sizes and what will and won't rub under full flex and yadda yadda. But being that I don't have a front diff or axles to worry about load amount on, and generally this beast is driven on the highway with 0% flex, and on the occassions it goes offroading, its mostly dirt trails and such with a minimal amount of big ass rocks, I need some input here... I plan on getting some 15x8 steel wheels. Its a toss-up atm between black D window style, black soft 8, or white cragar nomad 1. Leaning towards the nomads because I've never seen anyone with them, and the whole white jeep white wheels thing looks pretty cool (at least on the big o tires visualizer thing i found elsewhere on the forum) But I digress....

I plan on lifting. Most likely a Rusty's spacer lift and the front clevis lift to start (because it's cheap) and eventually OME springs all around w/ new struts, but that will have to wait (probably for quite a while). I don't mind pounding the pinch, or doing a bit of inner fender-well trimming... but unless someone has a bad ass new front bumper for really cheap for me, I don't particularly want to go hacking big chunks out of the stock front bumper.

So to end a long rant with the question at hand.... Will some 31x10.5x15's work for me without rubbing? And if the answer is no, then with the help of some spider trax 1.25 wheel spacers, would they? Or should i focus more on the backspace/offset of the wheels themselves? (I'm new to truck wheels... I've had honda civics and such most of my life...)

Thanks in advance...

Without a good spring lift, the tires will be too big and major hunks of bumper/flair will need to be removed. Rusty's sells a complete kit for 465 bucks...but the rear shocks are crap.

I had to pound pinch welds, trim lots of plastic up front on the fog doors and even the bottom edge of the front fender flairs..so the key is height.

Spacers will only make the situation worse by setting the rims out further.

Hmmm... fair enough. Then what would you say for size? The good spring lift is coming, but not for a while (and not rustys oem spring rates either)... and winter isnt that far off, so I need some more traction soon. What would you recommend for a spacer/clevis/isolator lift w/ 15x8 wheels? And as a second question, if for whatever reason I have to get tires on stock rims/height, what would be my best bet?

I would go 30x9.5 for the lift amount you are doing....It's hard to say how much lift you will get though.

If you need to go on the budget minded side, they Daystar poly spacers would be good.

Sweet. Yeah I've been looking at tire calculators and such for the last couple hours. It appears 30x9.5x15 is the way to go :) Thanks for your input bro. It is appreciated. And as a side note, I've totally decided on the nomad 1's. Totally badass. Does 15x7 w/ 3.75bs sound about right? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRR-3105712/

3.75" bs may be too much, considering stock wheels are 5.5" bs, at 3.75 you are moving the tire section out, which is where the rub will be more likely to happen on turning full lock. I had to trim a major amount to get these 10.5's to turn and not rip anything off(yet) and my rim bs is 4"

If I were to get new rims, I would go 4.5" bs next time.

Well i haven't bought them yet, and I'll definately take that into consideration. I wasn't really clear on backspacing - i thought the lower number meant it was closer to the inside of the wheel well. Thanks for clearing that up :)

Edit : http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRR-3105712P/
Found them in a 4.5 BS variety. :D

What works the best when running larger tires on the KJ is a 7 inch wide rim with 4 inches of back spacing.

If I HAD TO use anything besides a spring lift then it would be Daystar, just have r to remember that any stock KJ spring with over 30,000 miles has already started to sag and that kind of lift will only make it worse. But some have ran them for a while until they switched

Daystar spacers are inside the strut, correct? I am curious why you would reccomend that as opposed to an OTT front strut lift. By shoving a spacer inside the strut firstly i'd have to have access to a spring compressor to re-assemble them, not to mention it would severly retract from the amount of suspension uptravel available. Just curious. So one vote for 4.0bs and one vote for 4.5... my head is starting to spin :p
