just wanted to introduce myself, and ask a for lamp question. i just bought a 2005 renegade as a second car for the winters and driving on the beach. i've had two wranglers and a CJ... loved them all. the renegade is in very good shape, but is missing the fog lamps.... i want to replace them ASAP. the are two treaded holes where the OEM lamps bolted to.... my question is if i go with a set of HELLA 500s, will they simply screw into these existing holes?

TIA

Adam

I believe they are a bolt with a nut on the bottom, you can reach up through to put the nut on, go into the how-to section i think there was a write-up on adding the lights so they are like the Renegade.

The stock lights are actually Hella lights made for Jeep, at least that's what i have read on here and other places. So just get a set and bolt em up!

Is the wiring in place for them? I assume the previous owner decided to keep them when selling/trading the Jeep in.. LOL

And welcome to the forums and being a Liberty owner!

They ARE very nice Hella lamps that are actually real glass! $5 says they were both knocked off by a drive-through car wash. Happened to my sister once before, her Jeep hasn't seen a drive-through car wash ever since!

I'd just go get the stocker replacements... it looks nice the way it came from the factory, IMO.

A drive-through car wash knocked her lights off? Holy cow! What, if I get lights like that I can't go off-road anymore?

What? A car wash took them out?

I hit a pheasant about a week ago, went into the passenger side Hella, it pushed it back a bit but that was about it.

Probably one of those car washes with the giant rollers. Those can destroy parts on your car. Those rollers also contain all sorts of fine debris which will crash the paint to hell. So use a touch-less car wash, or wash it yourself.

Btw, welcome AtoB(welcome)

From what I remember the Hella 500's are essentially the same as the stock Hella lamps it came with. The bulb is a 55W H3 so your only issue is splicing the new lights into the OEM wiring.

Yep, exactly. And the Hella 500's have glass lenses too, one thing i love about them, not the cheesy plastic.

Oh, while on the subject... Another Libby owner i bumped into a while back said he got a rock chip in one of his Hella's on the front bumper, he went to the dealer and they wanted to sell him the whole light, he went to Hella and their parts department will sell replacement lens for them so he went that way. I haven't checked with Hella for prices yet, but i should and pick up a couple spares in case i ever need them.

Yes I am dead serious. You need me to get her on here to tell you guys herself? LOL

She didn't notice it at first until she came home and I saw it hanging off by just the wires. I asked her who did she hit / who hit her and she said "What are you talking about?" I said "Look at your fog lamp!" She was pissed! She had only had it a few months too, I think. I'm surprised it made it the whole ride home.

Hmm wow, plastic must have been weak or cracked then, not doubting you just surprised because mine have taken more than that.

It's a VERY common occurrence with the '05-'06 Renegade. I see it around here all the time and have seen MORE than a few at work.

Each and every time too... I ask the owners "Your fog lamp got knocked off by a car wash, didn't it?" and I always get the same answer.... "Yes, how did you know? I'm never going back to one of those car washes ever again!"

Tell them they need to take 15 minutes out of their life and give it a good wash in the manual carwash, or use a nice touchless car wash!

We don't have any of those old school ones around here with the rotary brushes.

AtoB,

let me know how they turn out. I didnt receive any fog lights with my KJ either. I am looking for some replacements. If they work out well, how much did you pay for them? (if you dont mind me asking!)

will do, they should be delivering the car tomorrow...
after that she has a full schedule.... general grabbers 245/70/16 go on thursday, friday on go the fogs, rear tail light guards, and husky liners.
i'm debating whether to do the exhaust or roof lights next...
