I have a 2005 Liberty that I bought used in March of 08 (no owners manual) . Can anyone tell me what Jeep recommends for ****** fluid change intervals? 3 speed plus overdrive automatic. My mechanic said with the synthetic apf-4 it might not be due yet at 46000 miles.
Thank You.

It calls for transmission service every 30k. About $280 at the dealership, $135 at jiffy lube. Find somewhere in between, or jiffy if you trust the guys there and get it done.

Jiffy Lube?

Personally I would not trust quick shops to do any of my fluids.
They are famous for " we just suction out the old and put in new"
The transmission requires removing the pan/gasket and replacement of filters, inspection of magnet for metal/clutch debris and should only be trusted to either a transmission shop, dealer or better yet do it yourself.
Service Interval is listed in your owners manual and 40,000 miles is a good guideline, but if you are towing, more frequently may be better.;)

Dealership...............

Correct fluid(ATF+4 only) and comes with a 12 month/12,000mile warranty

Jiffy Lube.............

Uses DEXIII with a additive and calls it ATF+4,as soon as you leave there parking lot they couldn't care less.

I'm a tech, have been for 13 years(professionally) and the only place that services my trans is a dealership,it's worth the extra money.

I got the filter at the dealer and the gasket at NAPA.

68059549AA Filter
1-7075 Gasket

The brand of fluid does not matter, as long as it's genuine ATF+4. After dropping the pan/filter, mine held 5.5 qts.

I change mine every 30k and only use Mopar ATF+4. If its not AFT+4 we will be reading a thread about your ****** failing and how its Jeeps fault for making cheap transmissions.. Happens everytime....

Yea, if you stick with 30k intervals or even less then I think its ok to just drop the pan and change the filter. I ended up getting 8 quarts out of mine but I let it sit over night. Most only get around 4 or so.

Also, Ive been thinking about sucking ****** fluid out of my dipstick every 15k or so just to get some newer fluid in there.

I have a trans pan drain plug kit I need to install when I do my next Trans service. I bought if for another car, but never used it. I have to with this, so I can change it regularly. You can still get these kits on line...

I have the automatic transmission flushed, new filter, new ATF+4 every 36K at a Chrysler/Jeep dealer. I also ask for the old filter back so I can visually inspect it, then ask them to throw it out for me.
As soon as I get my lift installed along with all the other modifications and really start using it off road, I'll keep a close eye on everything and shorten the service intervals on the whole drive train. Sure it costs more money to take it to a dealer ship, but at the end of the day I cannot flush it myself and having it done also gives me a guarantee. In the long run, it's less expensive than a rebuilt transmission, or a hefty tow bill out of the bush somewhere because I was being cheap!
All my vehicles have better health care than most people.
