well after a long time of reading and thinking here is were i put my CB radio.
then antenna is were i was seeing some other people put theres. i made the antenna and cb radio mounting brackets out of some sheet metal. i painted the cb antenna mount with some duplacolor truck bed liner. the cable antenna runs in back behind the tail light and then in trough a hole that was pre-existing and in to the cab, then runs under all of the paneling to the dash and radio.

I like where you mounted the CB antenna.
Are you going to fabricate a face plate/trim bezel to finish off the installation of the CB itself?

yeah i was thinking of getting some kind of whether stripping to slide on the the cut parts of the plastic, or some thing like that.

I have a suggestion for you.
Go to a shop that sells plastic materials and ask them if they have any scraps of Kydex laying around. (enough so that you can practice)
Most plastic retailers usually do and are happy to help out a hobbyist.
What I would do is make the opening for the CB nice and snug so that you can file it to get an exact fit. Then shape the outside profile to your desired look. once you have that done, you can then heat the Kydex in your kitchen oven over a wooden bunk resembling the shape of the knee pad (The lower portion of the dash where you cut the hole.) After about 20 minutes at 450 degree's Fahrenheit the Kydex drapes over the bunk taking on the desired shape. Then using 3M double sided tape, affix the custom made trim panel in the desired location.
The end result will look trick!
There is also two different finishes to Kydex. One smooth pebbled look and usually the other side has a sort of leather grain.
And once you get used to working with Kydex, it opens up a whole new world of customizing possibilities!

Cheers

Nice use of space! I like how it fits... and if you make a faceplate... It'll look sweet. Not that it looks bad now.

But whoa...

So this Kydex stuff with take the shape of any wooden jig I make? That is amazing. I need to get a hold of this stuff... It would open up so many doors with customizing my vehicles.

Do you know if It would be any good for speaker encolsures? I'm no good at laying fiberglass, but this seems like a legit alternative.

Thanks,

-Cody

Yes, you can heat it up to 575 degrees Fahrenheit in a conventional oven, at that temp it becomes very workable and will take on non complex shapes/curves easily. (You need to wear oven mitts naturally)
Kydex is best when vacuum formed. Then it can take on compound curves like convex and concave all at once. I made my own vacuum table and vacuum bag (he same material as water-beds only clear.)
The stuff is used anywhere from garbage cans to automotive interior trim such as dashboards, door panels and everything in-between. For speaker enclosures, I'd stick with fiber glass.
Again though, the more you use it and experience you get from it, the better the end result.

Just joined the forum....I have been looking for a solution for ages like this.
I'm going to try mounting my Cobra 29LTD either where you put yours or....

removing the glove box and mounting it in that opening.

My antenna solution is the spare tire mount from arizonarockyroad.com and a 4' firestik with the firestik quick connect.

Nice job on the mod.

ITF..

Thanks for the heads up on Arizonarockyroad.com - The spare tire bracket antenna mount looks like what I've been looking for!

Now I need to find a place to mount the radio - I like what ColoradoRed did with the dash mount but not sure I'm ready to start cutting just yet LOL

I'm sure I'll find a place in the Liberty somewhere though!

I used the spare tire mount from Rick at Arizonarockyroad with a Firestik antenna and a Firestik quick connect. I bought all the stuff from Arizonarockyroad. This is a good setup (IMHO). I previously had a Cobra WX75ST, which I really didn't like. I replace it with a Cobra 29LTDBC which is a full chassis radio. Now this presents an installation challenge. I been all over the Jeep forum looking for solutions and because of it's size, I placed it under the glove box on the far right. My microphone holder is the "Holy Sh$t" bar on the dash. Now that the weather is getting better, I'll have to get some pix of what I have done.

BTW go with a 4 foot antenna as you'll get more ground plane and a much better SWR.

how did you mount your anti cable,i thinking about running mine the same way. i was looking at drilling a hole in the door behind the spare but if i can find a better way that would be great.and to fit your cb under the dash did you have to remove anything from there.

The Antenna cable is wire tied to the antenna bracket behind the spare tire.
Then all I do is place it under the door and tuck it along the plastic interior (driver side).I go to the passenger side via the velcro'd coth on the back of the rear seat. Then tucked under the plactic trim on the floor to the dash. There is no pinching of the cable at all. I had this exact setup on my 05 for 800 MHz scanner rig.

Just out of curiosity, A C.B. radio has a speaker mounted within the C.B. radio's case, right?
How do you hear the speaker within the cab of your KJ? Or did you wire the speaker into your stereo?
I know mine has an external speaker out put, but I have not yet decided on how to wire it.

How did you mount that so close to the door? I loved your idea but when I looked at my Lib (06) it seemed like the clearance for a mount just isn't there

ITF36059; Does the antenna clear the rear glass when opening? If so, I really like that location.

the sheet metal antenna bracket fits in between the body and door/with out any problems. i didnt have to change the jeep in any way to put that mount there (exsepth the two holes the self-taping screws made).

with the volume up all the way i can hear it the cb just fine.
