this might have been covered before cant find it.

does anyone know of an after market hood for a 06 lib sport that has a working hood scoop for cold air intake? is so post link. if pictures are out there of anything like this, please post link. i might have to make this myself if nothing is out there.

only question is, if i do this how do i keep water out while running down the road? how are hood scoops designed to take care of this problem?

i think this would look pretty mean on my KJ.

thanks...:D

I would recommend the Suncoast. It's the hood designed by Profinish-Proglass. Mine is holding up very well with over 4 years on it.

Here is the original that was made for a SEMA show.

hey kyliberty!,... can you post some under hood pics of it? and also how did you make it hook into the throttle body for forced ram?

it is a workable flap design right?
thanks.

Suncoast hood with integral scoop

Not sure how to handle the water issue, [...].

Methinks they don't. If you ford above the hood, you're probably taking in some water. The only good thing is it shouldn't be into the air intake, just over the engine-- depending on how fast you cross. My advise, if you really ford deep water often, this might not be the best idea. And if you do occasionally ford, then keep the speed down.

It's a tough choice, but I kind of like the Deep Throad STS. Just aesthetically.

I do have to admit when I saw the first SunCoast I nearly wet myself. Just an expenditure that I can't really justify.

You might consider a hood scoop from another automotive manufacture. Look at the photo of my Mini , those are off of a Suzuki Swift Turbo for example. I'm looking at a Chevy cowl induction that I can "glass" into the stock hood. It faces back wards so water isn't a real issue!

so did you have to cut that hole in the underside yourself or is it like that upon arrival?

Maybe i had the wrong idea about forced ram scoops, but i imagined it being like a single path straight into the the throttle body that closes air tight around that area with something like rubber molding (like on the doors) when the hood is shut...of course with some drainage ports in there somewhere before the filter. (something like a shaker scoop on a 77 trans am...in a way)

i could build it this way myself with no problem but i assumed it was like that anyway....

so if the hole isnt there upon arrival, im guessing one could make the air enter anyway or where they wanted right?

either way i can make it work and the hood looks awesome.

The original had a smaller hole that would match up to the stock intake if you cut off the top curve and then extended it. It was originally planned to be finished into a true ram air. On mine, it was cut open larger while I was there since a had a K&N FIPK. It worked so well that it became the recommended way of using it. Even a very well designed ram air won't actually add much power over opening up the intake path and getting cooler air to it. I'm not sure what the lower portion of the hood looks like on the new ones. If you want to follow through with your idea, it shouldn't be too difficult if the hoods are still made in 2 pieces. Would just need to get another lower section fabbed up.

Now if i could just figure out a way to take the K&N heat shield to seal on the bottom of the hood?idea.gif Like a stock air box but taller with a rubber edge that makes a nice seal when its closed. I might know just the man to make one:D LTT?

Mine used to be set up like that with the K&N shield built up to seal against the hood. It really didn't make any difference. It actually works better set up with the AEM that is on it now.

Is that because the AEM filter is a little larger???

The benefit you see from a "Ram Air" is actually the cooler, denser air it is getting to the motor. The difference between a true ram air system and a true cold air system on a 3.7 KJ isn't measurable. Get up to about 160 mph, and you could get a nice 3-4% increase in power from the ram air though.
