Hi all, Kind of an open question......
I have a 06 sport 4x4 that is my everyday ride. I live in PA and drive some nasty roads, including into NYC alot. I have always tried to baby my vehicles....previous were 2 ford pickups and a cj-7 (miss that one). I try to take it easy on the bumps and potholes and not beat the jeep up too bad, am i just being paranoid or can this thing really take a pounding and i really should not worry about it. I plan to keep this one around for awhile.

Thanks all

Ken

It can take a pounding and you really should not worry about it. :) I should know, I've crossed medians, my mom has run over obstacles on I-75... including ladders which fell off a truck right in front of her, gigantic potholes which I couldn't see, dips in the road, we won't get started on offroading...

Ken - Dont be too nervous about it. I've been running the ruts, bumps & potholes of Old Mill Basin & Canarsie with my 02 KJ for 6+ years & she is still rock-solid. No rattles or buzzes anywhere. I plan on keeping the tough little bee-yotch for another 10 years.

I live in North East PA. I'm assuming you live in the same area since you said you drive to NYC. So I know where you are coming from when you say roads are nasty. Trust me and the rest of us. You're KJ will take them like a Champ.
I hop island medians on a weekly basis to avoid being stuck in traffic. :D

and listen to Jeepster. Take it off Road!!! :D

You don't need to baby it. The front end (suspension) is far stouter than you'd imagine. Just remember that KJ's are heavy, though. You'll top/bottom out pretty easily, but it'll keep on going. Oh... never let the front end hop if you are crawling. The front diff might go PRANG. Also check your ball joints often for any play. That's about it...

Now that I've had mine for 5 years and learned how to drive off-road... I do take it easy on the bumps now. Mostly because I know the wear and tear that it does. I'm not worried about failures so much as the $$$ to fix it.

Yea it is a small world. If you ever see a Silver KJ Sport with Hella 500 lights light on the bumper... That's me!! Not to many KJs with Mods in our area so I stand out in the crowd here

really take a pounding

Ken

Define 'pounding'

There's always someone who has a markedly different definition of 'pounding'. For instance, I wouldn't come back to the board complaining about suspension problems if you try to jump Snake River Canyon in it.

But going over ruts and bumps at a reasonable speed? No problem.

Haha that reminds me of a Liberty pic I saw with the Jeep on a big jump (maybe here?), looked like it was gonna hurt.

My 05 has taken what I have thrown at it with no problems. I will admit I haven't taken it off-road a whole lot, gotta get some skids...

I pound city streets almost daily. I never believed in slowing down for bumps. No complaints here.
