what would everyone recommend as a nice wax. I am planning on a last of the year waxing of my vehicles, and ive tried all sorts of waxes. I have hated some, others are ok, never really used one that I felt I needed to get more! I want to take care of swirls, but dont really need to worry about scratches.

hand application too, if that makes a difference

Since you probably wont be preping the paint, polishing the paint, and waxing the paint, I recommend a good cleaner wax such as Meguiars Cleaner wax or Meguiars Color-X. Color-X is one of the strongest cleaner waxes in the meguiars consumer line.

Also, its always best to clay the paint with a clay bar prior to waxing. This will help the paint shine and make it feel slick. Meguiars clay kit, cleaner wax, and color-x can all be found at Advance Auto parts. Be sure to use a quality applicator and Micro fiber towel to apply and remove the wax.

This is a very good article to read although it doesnt cover cleaner-waxes.

http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/thread/20803.aspx

A cleaner wax take the paint cleaner, polish, wax, and puts it all into one covenant yet effective step.

No, I do not work for meguiars. :)

The KJ is easy compared to most vehicles.

In fact, I clean the KJ so much, that if a buddy asks me to detail his car, like a regular sedan or econo box, i'm done in about half the time I am with the KJ, and find myself saying "did I forget to do something??? that was really fast"...lol.

well i did both yesterday, my hands are fairly numb from doing everything.

by the time i got to the jeep i didnt even want to wax it, but i did. i had to debug and detar it prior to waxing, it hadnt been cleaned in awhile and is used mainly on highway commutes (blarg)

both look really good, claying obviously really helps.

meguiars colorX was good, although for the price, it compares to others in the market IMO. I didnt notice a richness to my paint, I even did some coparison with some older paste waxes I had laying around. There was a Dupont with Teflon that was actually pretty nice, took care of some heavily swirled spots. I dont know if you can even buy it, its about 3 years old, atleast.

anyhow, thanks for the input, I have some left, Ill use it until its gone, but like I said, for the price, not sure Ill get it again.

I see that you have already bought a wax, but I thought I would add my input for someone else who might read the thread and be interested.

I have found recently that I really like Duragloss.

#601 topped with #105 is a great combo. #601 will clean and prep the surface for #105. #105 goes on so easy and comes off even easier. It is about the easiers sealant I have ever used. <y arms are never tired after wiping it off like usual. That is a big factor for me.lol

I put it on my wife's Audi around April of this year and it is still beading perfectly. Some of the shine has gone, but it is still there. The durability is definitely there.

#105 is self cleaning and very slick on the surface and makes washing is so easy.

If you really want to keep the shine there and add to the protection, add #951 Aqua Wax over those maybe once every couple of months. It is a spray sealant and makes the paint look wet and deep. Extremely easy to apply.

I use Collinite 476s, FK Pink Wax, Meguiar's #21 and Klasse AIO & SG on my own cars. All of them are long lasting waxes/sealants but none compare to the easy of application of #105.

It really makes silver and white look great.

For application, rubb a very small amount of #601 all over the paint and let it dry. Follow with a application of #105 without wiping off #601. Once #105 has dried, wipe it off and your done. You can find it at CarQuest.

I haven't checked in on the detailing section for quite some time. Although late, here is what I swear by:

It takes a long time, but the results are amazing. I've done my Jeep and a steel blue Chrysler 300C. Both turned out looking like show cars afterwords. I have more pics in a thread elsewhere, but here are some examples:

Love these resurected threads...........I can't help you with "the best wax"........As far as the ladder goes, mine is a PIA so I don't use it anymore. What I do is use a sturdy 5 gallon plastic bucket. The kind that sheet rock mudd comes in. Turn it upside down and get on it and I can reach everything. It works better than a ladder for me anyway.

Then after doing the jeep I do the car and all of a suddon I can reach over the top while standing on the ground. Then I realize how tall the jeep is.

Unfortunately, it's not mine, but I have gotten to drive it a few times. It is extremely roomy and I think there may almost be more storage room in the trunk of it than in the cargo area of the KJ. The 5.7 is incredibly fun. They have been getting about 24 mpg out of it as well with the MDS system. Oh, and the UConnect interface is cool too.

On the wax note, the Zaino stuff has been very good, but I am about to place an order for some waxes from Optimum. Seen and heard good things about it.

almost all waxes do that.

tape your black plastic off with painters tape, or just use peanut butter and let that do the trick for you.

I have tried products to bring black plastic back to life, like mothers back to black, and personally don't feel it is worth the cost. The stuff makes the plastic worse in the long run, which results in always needing more and more :(

It's a new product that claims to not leave a white powdery residue so I figured why not and bought it for $7. I'm off to wax now.

Update: It works pretty good for a $7 wax. It doesn't leave a white residue on plastic and doesn't give the plastic a glossy shine either. Kind of like Armor-All with less gloss. It removes the scratches I got in the mud too.
