hi everyone i'm new to the site and i got a 2002 liberty sport with 245k miles on it the girl i bought it from had removed the front drive shaft due to it making a bunch of racket. what i'm wanting to know is should i get a stock front drive shaft or an uprated one as all things on it are stock but the wife is wanting to lift it anyway thanks and if you guys know of some good places to buy a complete shaft let me know thanks

If you have the old shaft, you can replace the cv end(s). Usually it's the transfer case end that goes first, but I did both ends of mine while I had it off. Not very hard, and way cheaper than a whole new shaft. Do a search here, the procedure has been covered before.
Being lifted has no bearing (pun intended) on the front driveshaft. The front axle is stationary, the lift happens at the wheels and it's the cv axle shafts that are affected.

Yep super easy repair. I did mine during an hour lunch break and I agree if its out do both ends and know its all good. It cost me $100 with shipping getting the parts from the link in Toms post.

Sorry to hear that. Try to find a used one for cheap and just the ends yourself. Otherwise you are looking at 200+$$

There is a manufacturer out there that makes a U-joint conversion driveshaft. Could be worth looking at since you're buying a new shaft anyway.

A 2 u-joint conversion is a bad idea because the pinion angles are wrong, and you'll get vibrations/premature joint wear. Using a double cardan style is a different story, but why the extra expense since a new cv shaft may likely outlive the rest of the Jeep.

Well someone needs to give him the shaft then! ;)
I remember J.E. Reel made one for out Liberty, don't know if they still do. It was upward of $500 though, which to me is quite an extra expense compared to buying and rebuilding a used stock one.

Anyone ever have issues with thier rebuild kits? I fixed mine about 2 months agao and now I'm getting a metallic, jingling sound. Louder under a load. Have not had a chance remove the DS.

Done two on mine original lasted about 80,000, rebuilt lasted another 90, then this one has about 44,000 on it, so no issues. Rebuilt 5 or 6 other ones for people and they've never had any issues either

Not 100% sure its the front DS. Just sounds like where its coming from. Only hear it with the window down. Running and driving great...just getting that noise and its getting louder. Had it on the rack doing an oil change and everything seems fine.

Its the DS. I pulled it and the CV I got has slack in it already. It was really inexpensive..I had a feeling it might not be that great. Going the get another one...from someone else.
