Somthin's up with my jeep lately. Start it cold runs & sounds fine but you can feel a slight shake. I pop the hood, and ya the rear cylinder breather hose is shaking good.
If you leave the driver's door open and put your hand on it, you feel it vibrating= eek.
So I let it warm up, not as bad but still a slight shake.
In Park under hood, I manually at TB advance the throttle to about 2000 rpm and ahh..you can feel a stumble even at 1800- 2000.= eek.
SO I hop back in drivers seat, giver so some gas quick up to 2500 rpm and release...ahh..pop..pop in exhaust is heard..= eek.
Pop pop in exhaust to me means ...somethin is slightly sticking, probably the lifter department, and we know what comes next if the lifter/ lash adjuster does not compress within spec right..?? ya..fling..click- clatter as the rocker comes off.

I also know that sludge or dirty oil can cause problems. We dont have any sludge in our oil fill tubes right!!??

Pulled a few spark plugs, all look good, checked gap, no codes, throttle body is clean, PCV is new, oil is new synthetic.
So I am not a big fan of adding anything to my oil, as we know snake oil is not recommended, but at this point I will try anything.
So I drain about 1.5 liters of the clean oil out, and here goes the mixture.

One can of Wynn's Engine Tune up/cleaner and 3/4 of a liter of Marvell Mystery Oil.

Out for a 1 hour hwy boogie I go...
Ah...what a difference...Hardly any shake & as I advance the throttle under hood now to 2000 rpm ---No Stumble.
I expect the oil will get dirty quick as it cleans and will change to new again in 500 miles.
I hope this cleans the valves/lifters well. How much crud is in there?

Cant find it locally. there are old cans on ebay but I don't think I'd like to try old old products

I'm curious to see if the improvement is permanent. I hope so! :)

I have had good success with Wynn's tune up, works nicely to clean & free sticky rings/lifter in other rides I've have owned over the years. Never added it before to the Jeep.
I Like to pour a can in about 200 miles before an oil change, even though you can safely leave it in the oil, as it will eventually disperse and burn itself off from what I understand.
I did this 200 mile thing in my sedan a few days ago before the oil change, and it makes the oil slippery instead of sticky like old oil gets.
The oil was still fairly clean before I added the Wynn's into the sedan. Two days later after good hwy drive..not so much, it came out pretty much black, so I know it does clean the crud out.
Strange you cant find it at a local retailer. Even stranger that the Wynn's Usa site is down. hmm Link: http://wynnsusa.com/

That's great Tom you must be doing a lot right, including real frequent oil changes. I forget are using synthetics?
Mine's been running poorly. More like a sack of Potatoes. Fuel mileage went to an all time low. While gas here is the most expensive in all of N.America.
Hopefully this mixture of cleaner and Marvel does the trick.
I'm going to try Penzoil full syn Platinum (made from Natural gas tech) next.
If that doesn't do it, the only thing I can think of is a Dealer full emission service again & keep up with a cleaner before oil drops.

Mobil 1, first change at 500 miles , then every 3-3500 miles since. Heck my tires have more miles than your KJ.

Update on Engine Shake potential Misfire:
First off a case of beer was needed, for me to borrow my bud's Snap On latest $6K scanner.
Can I get a loan..I want one! Very nice, Intuitive, very fast processor!!
The IAC looks good/passes:

The engine shake has become more noticeable now, just above idle at around 700- 900 RPM.
So lets see what going on in the misfire count:

CYL 3 = 2 misfires

CYL3 =1 misfire

Then CYL 2&4= 1 Count each, while hitting that bad spot of engine shake -700-900rpm

Well that does not tell me much, really sometimes it jumped around to 4-6 cyl... it was really all over the place.
The misfire was not steady nor was the count really high enough like 12-14 misfires steady on one single cylinder to indicate a bad coil pack.
Well my thought is ...Jeep is probably running lean on the injector side, and is not able to provide a smooth enough idle.
So I am going to try an aggressive injector cleaner....will it work ??

The best solution IMHO is to remove the throttle body, clean the intake, TB,
and remove the injectors for a pressurized cleaning & test.
Or replace all the injectors?
Does anyone know if these injectors are a 2 or 4 nozzle spray pattern?
Is there a better injector that can be used in the 3.7...IDK.
Someone should convince me to try to keep this Jeep.
I am thinking a newer low mile pick up soon would be a better option for me.

Tim, both of the 3.7's I've had have been rougher than other V-6's. This engine is a 90 degree V-6, which is not the ideal design for smoothness.

Give the MMO and Wynn's a chance to do their job - could be anything from bad fuel to some crud in the intake or fuel system. Getting rid of your very nice KJ would be a bit extreme and a lot more expensive than keeping your Jeep.

Just my 2 cents :waytogo:

Mine was running like crap after coming back from Columbus last week.

Almost the same symptoms!

Then, all of a sudden, in the middle of this week, back to normal?

And I want that scanner!

No have not tried that, but I am going to be consulting a local dealer later this week and see if I can get more information, or any TSB's relating to this problem.

Just got off the phone with main tech here at Jeep dealer.
Explained the whole situation, says those engines do run a bit rough around idle.
But if you are seeing misfire counts above idle, it may very well point to stem seals.
Leave it he says until it get worse and the check engine light will come on if it gets bad enough.
Asked about lean run due to injectors. Apparently they can not view injector pulse on DRB scan tool and they are now using the latest snap on, to view more live data..LOL..
He did mention to take a sample of fuel off the rail, water, junk gets in tank and you got problems.
Next is to try a pro emission service, where they hook up the pressurized cleaners directly into the fuel rail and see if that improves anything.
Why do I get the feeling my stem seals are on their way out?
