I have a 2003 Liberty with the auto ******, 42RLE. The ****** is showing signs of dying, slow shifts.

A. a friend of mine has a new 42RLE off a 2011 JK Wrangler I can have for free, question, can I just drop it in? Even though they are both 42RLEs might they be different?

B. if not A, then what is the best course of action when the ****** starts going out?

thanks!

In 2005 Chrysler changed their electronics in their vehicles to a different system, so if you could make them fit, they may not be able to comunicate with NGC that came with the Liberty. I would just get it rebuilt and have done with it. I would also scan it and see what comes up or use the indash system to see anything current.

Drop the pan and change the filter and put in some fresh fluid? (ATF+4 only)

Thanks, I already tried the new fluid/filter route. It doesn't seem to be getting worse too fast, might last a while.

Any ideas on what a rebuild on the ****** should cost me so I can budget that?

Thanks
