which speed sensor?

Two days before Christmas and half way into a 800 mile trip our speedometer & cruise stop working and the check engine light came on. We turned around and came home and had a shop look into it and they said it was a bad speed sensor. BUT there are two, one in the trans and one on top of the rear diff. How can we tell which one to replace? It's a 2004 Liberty 4x4 with 24,000 miles. We are new here, thanks for any help. Please emails us.

The one on the rear diff and it's more common for the wiring to be messed up then the speed sensor being bad.Sometimes the wiring is bad in the connector and can not be seen.
