What is it

Hello everyone, I just purchased a 2008 liberty and I noticed underneath on the drivers side rear next to the spare there is a oblong plastic black box with a wire going in to it, anyone have any ideas what this might be

This is your vapor canister. The wires go to the ESIM (EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM INTEGRITY MONITOR). The ESIM tells your PCM whether your evaporative emissions system is sealing properly, and controls vapor flow to the purge solenoid.
