I will have to agree with TBJ on this one
if it is making noise then chances are really good the bearing is shot

here is how you can tell for sure
jack up the front and drain the diff
then spin the front with your hand if it is real noisy then there you go ,bearing
if it is quiet then replace the seal
it will make more noise with no oil

if you need to replace the bearing then I would overhaul the front diff
depending on milage <50k just the bearing and seal
>50k ,over haul
and seeing as how you are in there why not just do a True Track?
only going to cost you an extra $350 over the cost of the job any way

Well i found out the noise is actually the rear brakes, I replaced the rear rotors and pads and noise changed a bit.. and now as soon as i tap the brake its gone.. Also the previous owner must have driven with the e-brake on, since there is nothing left of the shoes on it.... So maybe tomorrow i will run up and get those to replace them and maybe i could actually have a working e-brake in the Jeep.
TBJ granted i do need to get the seal and the bearing/s replaced it still has not dripped a drop since i drained and filled the fluid...
I am hoping that I can just wait a few months and keep an eye on it and when i have more money and get the seal and bearing/bearings replaced at a shop and maybe if i could afford it add a locker, and push the lift farther back on the list.
J-Thompson you say a Truetrac is only $350??
Alright i hope this isn't too stupid of a question, but the Truetrac is a LSD correct? Is the difference between the two that a locker is always locked in place where as a LSD is not fully locked?
I will plan to save what maybe $400 for the bearing/s and seal to be replaced. Monday i will call a couple local shops and see what there prices are.

Wait, just thought of this, could a Truetrac go in if i has ESP??

No what he said was "and seeing as how you are in there why not just do a True Track?
only going to cost you an extra $350 over the cost of the job any way"
That means plus $350.00 over the cost of the rebuilt. You would be paying for labor on the rebuit so for 350 more you would have a true track.

Oh i know i was saying without the Truetrac if i went that route somewhere around the $400 for just the seal and bearings to be installed.
Maybe a little on the high side may not, but i'd rather be on the high side then low side :D
