What did you do to your jeep today?

Changed my rear diff fluid today. I always paid to get it done before but this time it was either a long wait for an appointment or shops saying they don't do diffs. Nobody wants to work anymore. It was my first time doing it myself, not hard just kinda a little pain. I also mistakenly used a Permatex that takes 24 hours to cure. In the end all good, no leaks, no more binding sound when turning.

Built into the starter. It's the small wire.

I googled the Viper alarm real quick, which you have probably also done.
Have you tried to reset the alarm?

The alarm may need to be put back into 'Valet' mode, or the system will need a full reset.

Viper alarms are known to be very rugged, they don't provide odd issues *if installed properly *

I mean... slightly plausible?
Alarms are known to cause higher parasitic draw, and if it keeps sensing something that pulls it out of sleep mode, it could be waking up parts of the jeep that way. since it happened twice at the gym, are people even more of ******** when it comes to rubbing and bumping people's cars? How old was the old battery?

Maybe next visit park as far away from other vehicles as possible, if possible? maybe hunt for an end spot so you can keep as much distance between your jeep and other vehicles?

That's about all I got for that idea.

If people rubbing against it is causing it to false, a ****** job was done installing it.
I still suspect the alarm, but I think it's going to be a case of a poor install. Common offenders are supplying relays with 12v constant power when they should only be seeing power when tripped (while armed), and similar issues.

The battery is 4.5 years old and it is a good model. (They are retailing for over $400 today. ) My main problem is that before I sort of retired I worked from home. The previous batter died largely because I was never driving very much or very far and it didn't get charged on the road enough. I have a decent battery charger and I will throw it on there in the winter periodically to try and offset that.

The mechanic said it was at 56% when he tested it. He threw it on the charger and it stopped charging at 82%, then within minutes dropped down to about 60%. I have no idea what equipment he used to determine those numbers.

It could be that it just went bad (or bad "enough") this week to cause the problem and the previous issues one year and two years ago were unrelated.

I will probably never know. It happened in the middle of 2024 and again in the middle of 2025, then this week. Assuming the problem was not actually the battery I may not find out until next summer.

4.5 years these days is a good run for a battery. It was time. Additionally, if it was one of those Optima batteries... Let's just say they aren't what they used to be

After a recent off roading trip at Moonrocks (Reno, NV) and having the front left tire partially debead and getting sand in the sealing surface I could not get it to reinflate past 21psi. Got back home and the next day broke the outer bead off, blew out the sand and reseat the bead. I am looking at the Method Beadgrip wheels and a set of 235/75-17 tires. Gong to be around a $2000. upgrade to hopefully not have a similar issue out wheeling.

Hey! No activity in 24 years? WTF is wrong with you people? Even if you aren't an off-roader, it is a Jeep. You HAVE to have done some thing to it. Since I bought this awesome nightmare, I've done a bunch of things that were needed, and/or funny. I'll post some of them if it looks like this thread will come back to life.

If you are going to do your own maintenance, I HIGHLY recommend reusable gaskets for the diffs and oil pans if they are available. For diffs and trannies, LubeLocker are what I use.

Last month or so, I have...
-replaced rear shocks
-replaced 4 tires
-gotten it aligned after the tires
....and now, after sitting in traffic for 3 hours to go 18 miles (thanks to RR XING work in the area) in a 135 degree black jeep.... Ordered every damn thing I need to 'forklift' the AC system in this bitch and get it working again.

.... No, I do not want to do the math....

What is the belt length for the part number for the serpentine belt that bypasses the air conditioning compressor?

Dayco part number 5060825 or a generic 825K6

Doing to pick up one of those.

It completely roasted the bearing, and melted the clutch material and slung it around the engine bay.

Looks like you are on the right track. But sounds as though you will have to completely remove the compressor... And of course your expensive refrigerant.
