My water pump is starting to fail on my 2003 Renegade edition with the 3.7L. It is making a howling noise and when I sit in traffic too long I start to over heat. it seems high rpms as well as driving at speed seem to keep the engine cool enough through daily driving. But seeing as this is the family car I just want to put a new pump on and be done with it. The last thing I need is to be stuck on the side of the road with my six month old child. Any way, taking the old one off and installing a new one is pretty straight forward and from the other posts I search I found a video that shows me how to replace the coolant. I was a little curious on that one. But my main question is:

Which pump do I buy? Do I head down to my local auto parts store and use what they have, do I go to my local dealer and get their part or is there a better part to get online? I'm willing to buy the best part for the application but not trying to spend a whole lot of money either. I would like this car to last a few more years but it already has 177k mile on it. Any input is greatly appreciated. THANKS!!

I bought the NAPA one in Post #17 of the thread that TC linked to a couple weeks ago. Too early to declare it a winner, obviously, but it seemed well made.

Thanks for the quick replies! I searched this forum but never came across that article. It basically answered my question. It's basically a crap shoot. OEM could last but so could aftermarket. Guess I call the dealership to see how much they want. Maybe the price came down a bit and will not be over double the cost of the aftermarket. Thanks again!

Oh and The Jeep uses HOAT Mopar or Zerex G05 (Hoat) coolant !!
Other stuff does not mix well & cause damage to the coolant system..So don't even think about buying anything else !!!
Are you going to flush out the system yourself ?

I'm going to go buy the Napa water pump this weekend. I had it flushed when my mechanic replaced the thermostat about a year ago. It was too cold to be out there messing with a thermostat. I plan on replacing the coolant with fresh HOAT coolant.

i use NAPA water pump for almost 3 years. i know it wont break down within that SHORT period. I think its a good buy rather than get an aftermarket water pump i would rather pay more for a brand that's already trusted. :icon_lol:

The OEM water pump I saw cost over $80 more. You could buy two of the NAPA ones and have enough left over to pay for a HOAT refill. :)
