Water Pump questions

Hi, 05 Liberty I have a leaking water pump, i want to replace it. As i looked inside the fan shroud I noticed a fan on a clutch and an electric fan. Is that normal ?

That is normal for the HD cooling package.
I assume you also have a factory tow hitch and 7 wire trailer electrics.

Yes I do. Renegade with the tow package. it gonna be fun trying to get that clutch fan off the water pump. Thanks for the reply.

It not to difficult usually, put a big wrench on it and give it a couple of whacks in the right direction. With the belt still on of course.

I tried that it didn’t work. So I took the water pump off with the clutch fan attached. That was a pain in the butt. The big question is now will it work with just the electric fan. The electric fan turns on at 224 degree and shuts off at 215.

Now that you have access to the back my you could put the water pump impeller on a vise and break it loose. I wouldn't run it with the mechanical fan.

There is a special tool for the radiator fan for removal in reinstallation! One of the local parts stores that rents tools should have it. It makes the job much easier!

Here is what I use to hold the pulley while I crank on the nut with an adjustable wrench:

Be aware that the big nut is reverse threaded - righty loosey, lefty tighty!!!
Also, store the clutch vertically - I understand if you leave it horizontal for any length of time it will suffer - not sure if that's true but probably not worth finding out the hard way.

The HD's electric fan and the standard electric fan are different, so it will be interesting to see what happens if the viscous fan is removed from the HD.

By the way,
My 2003 model has right-hand threads.
I think other model years are probably the same as long as the engine rotation direction and the serpentine belt route are the same.
Stand facing the front of the car and turn it to the left to remove it.
If you insert an M6 bolt into the hole in the pulley and hook it onto the rib on the pump housing, you can turn a wrench with both hands.

Oh, good lord. You can rent the two wrenches needed to take the clutch fan off from autozone

yep, you're right ikuo78, regular right hand threads - I've worked on too many cars the last few years - I swear at least one of them had left hand threads, Ford? Subaru? Mazda?

I think BMWs and older Range Rovers had left-hand threads.
