So since we started getting the snow here in ohio i drove home from work partially in 4wd and it started making a noise from the front that sounds light a light howling...
It only only makes it when hitting the gas and i was doing about 35-40, and granted it wasn't horrible out it was a pretty covered road..
I checked the front driveshaft and it didn't have excessive play in it, and it never really made it before when i would be driving it in the snow.
Could it just be that the road was kinda dry and on the dry pavement it howled?
I will try it out tomorrow to see if it continues making the noise...
Thanks!

It does work as normal, there is no grinding and i rarely ever use my 4wd with a nice set of snow tires its not even necessary, but every so often when we have some snow i like to engage it and drive for a few minutes

Well it made it to class today in about 55 mins instead of the usual 30 mostly because people can not drive on a highway that's not plowed and are all over the place. I was in 4wd a little less then half the time and did great. The noise was still there in the snow but was definetly quieter I think it was just the typical noise it makes from the front diff being engaged. Although I really wish I had full time 4wd!!

Yeah, 99% of the time when you take a GM out of the Stealership, you hear a crack tap sound about 10 feet away from the stealership :p No No, its not your wallet ... its the computer controlled chip that activates the auto-ruin mechanic of your newly acquired lemonade Tin can .... The other 1% is those other cars GM has agreements and share platform with ....

The two jeeps we have that can be put into 2wd have always made a noticeable roar when in full time. Ive never had it in part time at speeds above 10mph so I wouldnt know if it also makes it in that position. Its just b/c there is torque being put on a set of gears that normally wouldnt have torque on them.

Not saying this could be what your hearing, but its possible. If youve never heard it before then it could be something else.
