yesterday i was traveling and i was driving at speed 130KM and my gear went to Natural like a Transmission failure, i stoped i tried to put it to Reverse and it still the same no movement at all.
but when i tried to put it in 4H and i put the gear in( D )and i felt of movement but it feels like it was in 4L i tried to put it back to 2H or at least 4H but i was'nt succeed.

and it was long way to my home and i t was 3.00AM and i drive near 80km to my home and at speed 60Km.

today i looked and the the car and i have notice a broken link like the Picture.

i tried to put it back by the hand but still the same.

By neutral do you mean the actual gear shift column popped into neutral or it felt or acted like it were in neutral even though the column was in D? And you are talking about auto-trans gear, not the transfer case selector, right?

If it actually popped into neutral-- ie the shifter flipped into N normally that would mean you didn't have it locked in. I'm a little confused by your description of what you did next... were you driving on hard pavement and just decided to try driving in 4WD? If so, not a good choice because if you do have a bad transmission, you'll end up with a bad transmission and transfer case.

I suppose the cable/linkage is to blame but man..I would have pulled over and immediately checked the transmission to see where it was at on dipstick.
Did the transmission light ever come on?
Any update cherokee4ever?
