tires?

i bought an 02 libby ltd i know it came stock with 235/70/16s but it has 255/70/16s now my question is this is 255 the hight of the tire or is that how wide it is?

The 255 refers to the width in millimeters, the 70 refers to the aspect ratio which is measured as an percentage of the width (70% of 255mm) and that is the hight of your tire (178.5mm) and 16 is the size of your wheel.
