I have an 03 liberty with the Automatic 42RLE Transmission. I just had it serviced because my mechanic said the pan was really rusty and thin. The problem I have is when I am up and over 30 mph and slow back down it down shifts with a slight thud. My mechanic says that the computer needs to relearn how to do it because he used synthetic fluid. Is this possible or is he blowing smoke up my ass. It shifts fine otherwise and didn't start this untill after he was done. also I had him do a powersteering pump last month and it whines when I turn while giving it gas is this normal. thanks for any help guys.

Im far from being a mechanic, but what everyone on this forum will tell you is you can only use ATF4 in the ******. Do a search and read other posts. There is also a sticky on required fluids.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
1st go to the dealership and have the trans flushed with ATF+4,most likely the wrong fluid is in your trans and will damage it.And yes it is a good idea to have the trans relearn done also, the dealership can do this the correct way also(there are many wrong ways posted on this forum).
