Strange Noise from exhaust sounds like "back fire"

My 2003 KJ is having kinda back fire problem. I've checked the spark plug, cleaned the injector but it just wouldn't stop. I hope any of you guys can give me an idea of whats going on here. Really Thanks a lot!!!

btw: there are no engine lights on.

You mean you live in New York and don't hear "your engine backfire" everywhere you go? I drove from Hollis to DC 2 weeks ago and heard my (at the time) 4500 mile old Charger backfire at least 20 times before I got to the Verrazano Bridge ... I think it was the Charger, at least. Hollis is too nice of a neighborhood for it to have been anything else!
