starter died

went to go start the jeep "click clikclick click ' ****...... not a fun job from what i can telll... should prolly just send it in ... and advice?

Check the battery first, sounds like a drained or dead cell. You usually have some warning when a starter or selenoid going bad. My KJ is notorious for eating batteries.

well battery is dead now... hook it upto the jumper pack and it just clicks like crazy

Just went through the same things two weeks ago. Had to replace the battery pack it wasn't putting enough amps out. Jump it to another vehicle.
If it starts replace both.

Sounds like a new battery is in order.
Even though an Odyssey AGM battery would be best, but expensive..
I would like to try the CanTire AGM. (5 year free over the counter replacement)
Sealed AGM battery are very powerful, wont vent, so no corrosion on terminals.
Mega power for starting, even in the real cold too.

see there is no corrosion on the terminals ... and it started at -40 all winter... i just dont understand why the jumper pac wont boost it ...

It is all about cranking amps.
If your battery is weak and your jumper cant provide enough juice, it wont start.
Get another vehicle running with jumper cables, and see if it will start then.
If it does, then your starter is fine, your battery not.
A load test on your current battery will tell you how many cranking amps are available.
If you have a battery charger, you could charge your current battery up for 5 hours or overnight and see how it does.

ya i think my jumper has the amps ... i can operate the stereo wipers etc just fine and it clics lie a MF but it was wierd that the starter was clicing i tried it once for 2 seconds then got my wife and the battery was dead .. so hooed up my jumper and the thing comes bac alive just wont start and it is a 1500 craning amp one... the starter just cics and cics.

The wipers etc are not a demand for a 200+ amp pull.
The starter is probably not doing the clicking, it's the starter solenoid that is.
I have heard this so many times on other vehicles where the battery is weak or dead.
A jumper from another vehicle is the best way right now, to find out for sure.

thats where im headed too .. but to replace the solenoid you may as well do the whole starter. same amount of effort.

when my jimmy did this i used the same jumper and she'd turn over but that was a new battery that was being drained because of other reasons.

Modern electronic ignitions require more from a battery than ever before...just 'almost' 12-13V won't cut it...no matter what other accessories will turn on and work...the ignition circuit is another story...get a new battery...

so ya it is the battery thanks guys tried my jumper after charging all night and it wants to start i must need 501 cranking amps and all igot is 500

as for why It worked before but not now... batteries are strange animals. the old joke is they die in the summer but don't fall over until winter. yours was probably JUST making it by on those stupid cold days, but that finally did it in.

my general rule of thumb... if it's a daily used vehicle and the battery is 3+ years old, you start there for starting issues. jumper cables and a group 31 dual purpose marine battery makes a great jumper pack.
