Speaker Discussion.

So hopefully soon ill be getting a new sound system. And have some questions. Whats the factory radio's RMS? If I go with a component setup do I need to run new wires? I took the door boot off once and it was a PITA to get back on. How would you run the wires anyway because they're connectors and you cant just slide a wire through? Also I read that the dash speakers aren't really tweeters because they're wired in parallel. Do I replace with full range speakers with a bass blocker or...? Also if I run coaxial speakers do I keep the ones wired in the dash? If I did wouldnt the two speakers in parallel make the two speakers have lower resistance? I don't want to amp my speakers, and probably wont get a sub. The stock system just plain ***** imo.

here is my suggestion:

go with a good quality component setup for the front speakers. mount the crossover in the front door, run the xover off of the factory wiring, then run a wire for the tweeter back through the boot between the door and a pillar. replace the dash speakers with the component tweeter and leave the factory dash speaker wire disconnected. you can fit a wire in the boot under the factory harness connector....if you choose to go with a coaxial setup I would find a good replacement for the dash speakers as well and not bother with a hpf on them. I have components in the front and rear that I run off of an pioneer hu with an alpine amp.

I now think ill defiantly go component. I was thinking of intercepting the door speaker wires before they went out the boot, just wire it inline, and mount the xover In the kick panels. Then just run a wire up to the tweeter. Is it possible to do a 4 ohm component setup in the front and keep the rear with stock 2 ohms? Probably set the balance more forward to balance the sound output? Also what gauge speaker wire for hu power?

as long as the head unit can work with a 2 ohm setup you are good. as far as cutting the factory door speaker wires: that is a no-no. i'm not saying it won't work or nobody can do it but a good rule of thumb is to never mess with any part of factory wiring. if you want to mount the xover under the dash the i would run a new dedicated line off of the new head unit. (make sure you buy a pigtail adapter for the jeep rather than cut and factory wiring). there is a surprising amount of space under the dash. i would zip tie the xovers in place rather than putting a screw in anything under the dash and risking damage to something else.
