Hello everybody. Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I did have an account here several years ago, but it timed out, got deleted, forgot U.N., password, whatev. I have a 2004 with 99k on it. I used to drive it back in college while my parents owned it and just recently bought it from them outright. My Parents/I have had it since 36k miles. (somewhere around there i think) Its been a great vehicle and haven't had any problems with it. I got the lowerball joint replaced after the recall. The thing is still stock but not for long now that it is entirely in my possession. My first line of business is to get it sound mechanically. It needs an oil change in like 500 miles and i am thinking about changing fluids.

What fluids need to be replaced? Trans? Differential? others?
Is it worth going to full synthetic or a high mileage oil?

Tires will also need to be replaced before too long. Need to do some more research to decide which way i want to go with those.

Also, my brother has an 05 CRD and lives in the same apt as i do. Kinda fun to park next to each other.

thank you for any info you can lend. i will try to be around as much as possible to learn as much as possible

You have a 4x4? Do you have the maintenance records from parents as to what was done when?
I normally start at battery with a load test then onto spark plugs, air filter/interior housing, clean throttle body, and IAC..no check engine lights?
Regarding fluids, do them all if you do not have mileage records.. Including DOT4 brake fluid, HOAT type for rad flush, power steering- ATF+4, front diff GL5- transfer case (ATF+4) Do you have a rear trac-lok diff or open? The dealer can do an equipment list print out which is handy to have and will list your differential type.
Trac-lok does require the limited slip additive to the GL5 lube.
Hopefully you have an owners manual. Good info in there.
ATF+4 Transmission service I let the dealer do, as they have the correct machines and Star Scan equipment to handle the job done right.
****** service every I do every 45k or if I get a ****** temp light.
Front and rear diff once a year or every 15 k miles on rear diff.
Transfer case every 35k.
At 99k miles I would be also replacing the serpentine belt with a gates EPDM and also do the tensioner and idler pulley as assembly.

The Jeep will last a long time if you keep fresh fluids in there and keep it tuned up.
Engine oil I use Mobil1 full synthetic 5w-30 and a good oil filter like Mobil1, Napa Gold, Purolator. The engine oil gets changed out every 4000 miles.

Check out the "Reducing Body Roll" thread as well. If you've still got the factory shocks/struts/suspension arms/bushings/etc at 99K miles....:jawdrop:
