... Talking about snow tyres


How about off roading in the winter on bad, no longer actively used logging roads that have sections of "road" that is not covered in deep snow but has long icy sections dusted in 3-6 inches of dry powder snow as well as sloppy, ice covered 6 to 18 inch deep partially frozen mud?
In addition, sections of the logging roads have moderately deep ruts filled with anything from mud too slush?

A climate zone that can throw weather from a torrential down pour of several inches of water one moment, to 4 to 9 inches of mixed temperature snow in Blizzard/Avalanche conditions with 10 miles of driving down the road!

What kind of tires would all of us folks that are use to snow conditions in the winter months recommend in this type of terrain from the beginning of October through to the middle of June?

Surely not a dedicated "Snow tire" usually suited to snowy, icy paved streets and highways/freeways!

And no, I do not have tyre chains for such off road excursions... Yet
Only had them for my Mitsubishi, so they no fit no more!
But they are not always practical.
In some cases, a bloody nuisance because in all reality, it would be best to take them off every 9 minutes!!!

I don't think that they would be all that great for a Jeep Liberty other than for regular roads/highway/freeway, but still pretty cool!

Snoqualmie pass and the like will be starting to get some snow soon. I've never done any real offroad driving in the snow (all my snow driving has been onroad... last year in that crazy snow storm). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13wpVinFs-0

I did a little up near the passes, but I had no shovels, no equipment to air down/air up my tires and was just cruising around to check out the weather. So I didn't go very far. I'd go part way up a road, it'd start to get dicey and I'd quietly back out. There was a guy in a Ford Escape doing the same thing, but I left him behind. :O

Probably be heading up to Whistler in January for a little snowboarding though. I love that place.
