Hi
Got engine stripped down to remove head for testing / new gasket. Have a rounded head/ stud bolt that wont move. Tried Irwin bolt grip socket but made it worse as would not move. The stud is shouldered so will be difficult to cut top off and then extract the thread.

Any ideas welcomed.

I would try to grind new sides on the bolt head and then try removing it with a impact gun.
Take two nuts, put one upside down and one on top of it and tighten both together. Then you can use the nuts to remove the stud.

Here's an example I found on Google

I think he's just referring to a bolt with no threads showing.

In his defense, he does say stud bolt, then stud.. I'd he picturing a stud as well...
As for the bolt, as mentioned either grind new sides onto the head and use a smaller size that you can jam onto it snugly, or use an impact.
Or if you know someone with a welder/have a welder.. put a socket on it, and weld through the drive hole on the socket..the put a ratchet on and twist away...
Or if neither option seems to be working, get a nice extractor set, I have all the Irwin bolt grips, and I'll tell ya...I've stripped more things further with them, than I've extracted rounded bolts lol

Hi guys,

Thanks for the responses. The bolt is a head bolt and is rounded. I will try the options and then weld a nut or socket on if all fails.

Will let you know.
