Regear because of weight or size?

What's the cost difference between going to 4.10 or to 4.56? I know the diff cover can't handle the 4.56 so you need the JBA one. If it's not too terrible difference would it be smart to go to the 4.56?

Sorry, I didn’t catch whether you had a KJ or KK. The KJ is limited to 4.10 because of the Dana 30A front diff. The KK runs JK Dana 30 gears and can go lower. Both have the Chrysler 8.25 rear, which is not a limiting factor.

Since most of the cost is in the labor to do the gears, the price difference between 4.10 and 4.56 would be negligible.

is the D30A limited to only 4.10 or is it just a carrier break?

I had issues with my transmission getting hot while offroading in deep snow. I threw on an HD cooling fan and even on 90 degree days offroading it keeps cool. I do use 4low almost all the time while offroading for the extra torque

I have a 05 KJ. I didn't know about the limit with the front diff I only knew you needed a new cover in the rear. If I were to buy the setup for a regear I'd prefer to do a 4.56 but I guess it's more complex than a 4.10.
Any chance you have a link to what kind of fan you used?

Does the 4cylinder KJ front end that comes stock 4.10 have the same limiting factors or can it be made into a 4.56 relatively easy?

I went up from 235/70 to 235/75, which added 1” diameter. I noticed a very small change in performance but I used p rated at tires with a low weight to minimize effects.

I expect I’ll go up to 245/75 when these tires wear out but they weigh more even in p rated versions and it adds another 3/4”. I don’t think that’ll make a huge difference but it starts to make highway speed acceleration or uphills more difficult with stock 373 gears. Traditional wisdom is don’t go above 30” by much without regear and that’s what I’m going to stick with even though I’m envious of the meaty wrangler look.

Theres a very good thread on LostJeeps written by ifhoward on the HD cooling fan for KK. This is where i gathered all my information on it

Fan blades: 55038108AA
Fan Clutch: 55038106AA
Spanner Wrench

The install was relativly simple, but im not sure how the install goes for the KJ.
Part numbers could even be different?
