First problem was when I put on a Bosch 11" replacement blade for the rear wiper and found that even though there were 4 adaptors, none of them worked on the 2003 Liberty. Second problem is that after using my old adaptor from my original blade which is now 5 years old, the wiper doesn't wipe the windshield properly, but skips over the upper 3 inches or so. Any suggestions on what to do???????

hehehe I was in exact same position, but I managed to get the old one back there. I think you can get rainx in 11 or 10" size and just replace it. re skipping, you probably bent the arm when you were fiddling with it, try bending it back inwards.

That's what I'll probably end up doing. I have read that some people are using a 12" blade. Think that might work? But yeah, although it really ****** me off to pay $7 for a Bosch, and find out it doesn't work, I guess I'll have to pay for another wiper blade. This time I won't order it off the net so it can be taken back if it doesn't fit.
What I've done now is use the original adaptor which got mangled in my fiddling and secured it with a cable tie. It doesn't wipe the rear windshield as well as I'd like, but it's better than nothing until I can find a proper replacement. Kind of makes a guy feel like an idiot when something as simple as replacing a rear window wiper blade takes up 2 hours on a Saturday. I mean I've done lots of car related repairs in hydraulics, brakes, interior upholstery, etc, and I get defeated by a wiper blade......DAMN...what is the world coming to?????????? ](*,)

Talk to -=Jon=-, he managed to find one in his local auto parts store with an adapter that will work on the KJ, and being the pal he is, grabbed one for me and had it shipped from NYC to NC. I had been to every Napa, Autistic Zone, Advance, and Pep Boy's in town and could NOT find one that would work, nor the brand that Jon found near him. And I am a BIG fan of Napa Exact Fit blades....they're all i'll run on the front. They last a long time, are relatively cheap, and are of pretty high quality. I even went down the Bosch route, and was quite disappointed like you.

The problem is, if you compare the arm on the rear wiper of the KJ, to the arm on, oh say, ANY other SUV on the market, or hell even the front wipers on the KJ, there is no small hole for 99% of the standard adapters to lock into. When it comes time to replace the blade again, I am going to drill my own hole in the arm, and coat the inside of the hole with some paint so that it doesn't rust out. This should allow me to put on just about any 11" or 12" blade (can't remember the size that Jon got for me)

The rear wiper blade is the one maintenance item I regularly buy at the dealer. It's closer than Pep Boys, anyway. I've been thinking about picking one up soon. I think they charge about $13 (that's the part that *****).

Why do you all get new rear wiper blades? I hardly ever use mine, but its doing great to be 3yrs old. O:)

Because I use mine every time it rains, and it gets used A LOT! Not to mention that in between washes, to clean the dirt and pollen and any other gunk that gets on there (even bird doo doo) off, i'll use the washer on there.

Let's just say that I park with the back end of my Jeep under a tree. The sparrows use it for target practice.

Good day,

Have you tried bending the rear wiper arm slightly so that it puts more pressure on the blade holding it closer to the glass?
Or you could purchase a helper spring that fits on/over the "arm" by it's pivot point applying more more pressure as well. (same as above, but at an additional cost.)

How about trying to remove the "wiper rubber" itself from the Bosch item and insert it into the windshield wiper frame you originally had fitted on
the rear wiper arm.

And if all else fails just bite... Just bullet and buy another wiper blade.

Cheers
Ry'

I was actually thinking of getting rid of my flipper glass.. blocking it up completely with a decal or something, turn it all black or checkers....
I thought i didn't need the rearview mirror.. but it helps a lot, and clear flipper glass promotes visibility.

I try to avoid using the wiper as much as I can, because I HATE THE mark it leaves, since it covers only %50 of the glass area, It's better all dirty than having the wiper mark arch there... ](*,)

Yup, I rarely use mine also. The only time I will use it is at night if it gets really dirty, or if its snowing and crap builds up on it. O:)

I went to Murrays and AutoZone (local auto stores) to only find that each blade I bought would not attach. I gave up and bought it from the dealership.

If I cleaned the Jeep as much as Jeepster I wouldn't have to replace the blade. It wouldn't be used because there would be nothing to clean off the windshield!

thanks

thanks for the rear wiper problem input....it's nice to know I'm not the only one having this problem. I had considered getting one from the dealer, but the price is too high. Now it turns out it would have been cheaper to get it from the dealer because I'm going to end up buying 2 of them. I did try to pull the blade out and put it in the original wiper blade housing, all to no avail. The bosch blade came out easy, but the stock one was a total freaking mess by the time I got it separated......concerning the rear wiper arm, I made sure not to bend it, torque on it, etc...... The bosch blade cleans well enough, but the upper part of the blade doesn't touch the glass, since the original adaptor doesn't hold it in the correct position.

don't use the rear wiper??????

How can you not use the rear wiper when you need to back up once in awhile?????? I like that wiper arch mark on the back window.....problem is that such a huge load of roadspray and crap builds up there, that when you use your wiper it scratches in the same arch........but at least you can see what's behind you....most of the time.
