Hi guys,

I have a 2002 model 2.5 CRD Manual Transmission...

In Nov 2007, I had a burst water pipe on a mountain pass where I had no place to pull over for a couple of hundred meters, and ended up with a blown head...

This was duly fixed by a Jeep specialist, and the vehicle ran fine for about 9000 miles... Part of the warranty agreement on the repair was that I had to have the vehicle serviced by the same people for the warranty to be valid, so I duly took it back for a service.

after the service I found that I had a diesel leak from one of the injectors. so I took it back to be fixed...

Shortly after this, I was faced with the vehicle cutting out randomly.

The injectors were replaced, the pump checked and calibrated. but the damn thing is still cutting out.

The fault on the computer comes up as rail pressure low, as the reson for the cutting out...

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

If the rail pressure is low, the only things could be...

1. Leaky rail
2. Injector pump failure

That's about all I can think of... that would cause something like that.

Guys thanks for the responses so far...

Marlon,

The rail has been checked for leaks, and does not appear to be leaking, and the injector pump was tested and calibrated by a Bosch diesel specialist... and considering it is a Bosch pump and they are Bosch injectors, it should be properly done...
Although that is never any guarantee...

Tony,

The jeep specialist is said to have better technicians than the dealers... and they are substantially cheaper... However I am having my doubts...

The main reason I went to them in the first place was the dealer could not do the head repair in time for me to go away in December last year... and they in fact referred me to the guy who did the job...

i will talk to the dealer about the computer setting on with regard to the injectors, it could be exactly what is causing it...

The fuel lines were not replaced, but the brass ferrules at either end were, that is apparently were they usually leak... According to the Bosch center guys...

The Rail pressure sensor was replaced at the same time, as this was though to be the problem after replacing the injectors did not solve the problem...

On the high pressure pump, see my comment above...

On the starting front, what is happening may give a clue to the right person... My parking space is on a slope, and if I park facing uphill, then in the morning, when I start, she will fire and and then die within a second or 2... then she has to be cranked quiet a while before she starts... However, if I park facing downhill, then she starts no problem in the morning...

On Friday, someone suggested that it could be an intermittent fault on the solenoid valve on the pressure pump... I tried to get hold of one, but the dealer has told me that they will only sell me the complete pump, and that is fairly heavy in terms of price...

What I have deduced over the last couple of days is that if I ride her at half throttle, she doesn't cut out, but the moment I accelerate hard, or do anything that causes a sudden fuel demand, she cuts out...

This is becoming seriously dangerous, as that is exactly when you can't afford to have the vehicle cutting out...

Thanks for the thoughts so far, anything further would be much appreciated...

Cheers

1. Dirty fuel filter - have you changed it lately
2. Air in fuel - check all connections and bleed the fuel head
3. bad injector - would run rough and stall
4. Bad injector pump? -- expensive

Glow plugs would affect starting, not cutting out.
