Problems with my 06 Liberty

I have an 06 Liberty Renegade. I love it.

The other night I engaged into PT to get up our gravel snow covered road. As I accelerated I went reverse instead of going forward. Once I made it to the bottom of the hill I noticed I couldn't engage any of the gears, nor could I engage 4 lo, 4 hi, nuetral, etc. The shifter came straight back. My hubby was able to fix it so I could drive but I 'm still dead in the water because I need either 4 hi or 4 lo to get out of our neighborhood. All the research I've found says I need a new transfer case. Hubby is working a lot and doesn't have the time to research. So, here I am. Is their a part I need instead of a new transfer case?

So when you went backwards instead of forwards how long did that happen? What did your husband do to fix it? Does the 4x4 selector still work? Also, what modes do you have for 4x4 (like 4x4 full time, or does it only have part time, neutral, and low?) That makes a difference in what transfer case you may have, and what the problem may be.

Sounds like the transfer case linkage went. This doesn't require a new transfer case. Does the shifter feel really light to move?
