Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the forum, looking for a KJ in Doha (Qatar, Middle East). Vehicle choice here is limited, and condition generally atrocious, so I'm willing to put up with more problems than I would back home in the UK when buying. It is worth accepting some maintenance work - I'm reasonably handy with a set of spanners and enjoy getting stuck in.
So - I viewed a 2007 KJ Classic today with a few faults. Bodywise the car was in good condition compared to others I have seen, likewise the engine and ****** from my short test. Priced the same as bodily tatty and ruined interior vehicles, and that's before you get them started up. Good used vehicles are very hard to find here.
However, the main faults - which I'm hoping you can offer some opinions on:
1. Speedometer / mileometer not working (no idea therefore on actual mileage, guess 50k from brake disc wear and fairly unworn interior).
2. Brake check light illuminated
3. ABS light *not* illuminated when running, but is on with the check before starting the engine (bulb ok).
4. Traction control not working based on wheelspin pulling away on test drive (recalled this after the test, didn't directly test abs - doh)
On the photos: Under the car, near the ****** oil pan, there are 3 connectors hanging down loose, all female from what I could see. Are these related - ie have they been disconnected from something to stop errors being shown on the dash?
Aside from this, faults are (not particularly worried about these):
5. Rear regulators not working (bad noises though...). A common issue I gather?
6. One rear door interior release not working (not the childlock, checked that)
I'm happy getting my hands dirty here, but I'm concerned having read negative info about the 06-07 abs sensors and the ease of replacing the fronts (if it is them) - are they a real pig to do?
Do you think I am on the right track with my diagnosis?
Cheers!
Ian
