other than not having it pull into gear just right, what are some other reasons as tho why this would happen on a downhill? or any time for that matter?

syncros?? (sp?)

my 06 also does this some times, so i dont think the 02 is because of wear.

could it be that if its not used alot, that its easier for this to occur?

just trying to figure it out as it has me puzzled since i know for sure im engaging it right, and the wife does to as best as i can tell.

just trying to make sure im safe since i dont feel as trustful anymore.

can just simply keeping hand pressure on the stick help any?

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Most common issue for poping out of gear is not correctly engaged into the gear, not being used often enough can and will cause this problem. The other common issue is wear but you need to use the t-case very often and it can take years for this to happen.

ill start taking hers out (if we get hers back) and mine and using 4l/4h for a few miles on some loose roads up in the mountains a few times a month then, because we really havent used them like that much. that sounds like the reason.

x2 on it not being engaged. It's happened to me on rare occasion. If it's not firmly in gear, it'll pop into neutral. No big thing. 4lo can be a bit tricky to engage especially if you don't have the room (rolling forward) to engage it.
