I have a 2005 Liberty, garage kept, < 6000 miles. I have just noticed what seems to be a large amount of rusting, mostly on the rear axle and drive shaft (at least I think it is the drive shaft), and a couple other parts.

Is this normal? Do I need to contact my dealer? Or is this just surface oxidation of iron parts? I'm worried.

Just surface rust. If you live in a place that salts during the winter there is no way around it.

I have my 2002 undercoated every fall and there is not a trace of any rust.

What do you undercoat it with?

Mine looks like that, too, now. I sort of regret not getting Ziebart coating done when I bought my Jeep. But thinking of how much the dealer was going charge me for it, I am glad I declined.
