Is this "engine too cold too long?"

I've been having trouble lately with only warm (not hot) heat, and according to the temp gauge, it takes a very long time for the needle to reach the middle range. A couple days ago, the CEL popped on and the code is 1281.

I had the radiator replaced in the summer and a new thermostat was put in, but maybe it was a bad t-stat? I'm taking the Jeep in for service on Wed, but thought I'd try to figure it out beforehand.

In 99% of the cases it's a stuck open t-stat.

Thanks(biggrin) Anything I can do for that, or does it just need replaced? I'd try doing it myself, but I'd have to work on it in my driveway in a bunch of snow, so I'll probably just take it in to the shop tomorrow morning.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!

Only replacing the t-stat will fix it.Simple test to make sure is to start your KJ(totally cold engine) and let it idle for about 5mins,grab the upper radiator hose and squeeze it,if the hose in under pressure the t-stat is stuck open.

This is another part that I can only recommend getting from the dealership. At work we have had alot of issues with aftermarket t-stats and the 4.7/3.7 engines.

And most likely why yours needs to be changed.
