Hey guys,

My Jeep Liberty Sport 3.7 started overheating lately only in traffic (like sudden stop and go, constant RPM changes, etc). I backprobed the wiring going to the electric cooling fan and that seems to be getting power when needed and its functioning well. Mine also has a clutch driven fan and that seems to change RPM to keep the temperature centered. Please note this problem began the next day my coolant spilled over the overflow tank after the cap was slightly loose. After the incident, I topped up and bled the cooling system too. What else should I check now? Anyone please help....

Pressure test system to ensure no leaks anywhere.
Jeep runs pretty warm if it is hot outside, idling. What is your outside air temps there?
What temperature is it showing on temp gauge or better, a reading from a scan gauge on OBD2?
If the thermostat is not operating correctly, that could be a problem.
Use a new Mopar one only.
Next would would be the water pump.

Not the mountains.
During the summer there his temps are spiking easily at 120F or more so yeah cooling is a priority for vehicles there. The "winter" time there is much nicer.

Yeah. We have a very tough summer here both on the vehicles and people. Surprisingly, my Liberty only heats up in traffic movements and its fine while driving or idling. On the OBD the normal temperature stands around 90-degree celsius but couldn't check where it was reaching today while in traffic. Outside temperature was around 40-degree celsius. Also, there is no visible leak or drop in the coolant level.

So when it is hot, where is it on the temp gauge?
Mine at 32 Celsius in stop & go traffic is running 108 Celsius or 226F, just slightly above half on temp gauge. That is normal. The electrical fan with AC on should run all the time.
The hood traps hot air big time. Hood blanket etc...:flame:
Would be interesting for you to run it with hood off and see what difference that makes! :driver:
Remove the rubber seal below the windshield on cowling, and consider cutting in some vents into hood!

Definitely get rid of the hood blanket. Vents in your hood would give a huge benefit. I enjoyed my times I got to spend in the UAE. Much fun and good food was had.

Sorry for the late reply. My OBD shows 90 Celsius when the vehicle is idling and the temperature is normal. Gauge stands just on half mark or below. The time it overheated it went around 3/4th of the gauge and was still rising with poor A/C performance too and to my luck the traffic cleared up and with the A/C OFF the gauge dropped back to just below half.

To my luck, today while in traffic the A/C started feeling bad and the temperature gauge started rising up slowly I pulled over and found the electric fan was not working and there was still solid supply to the motor. So, my cooling fan motor intermittently stops working and it starts working again from a speed bump or other road shock.

Now is the cooling fan motor for tow package and without tow package the same? Mine has the clutch controlled fan.

Thanks all..... ;)

Sounds like your efan is bad.

The efan with the tow package is different than the stand alone efan.

Mine never gets above a tick below half even off road with the AC on and 100 degree heat.
